And this has exactly what to do with his so called predictions? Whether I know how to shoot a camera, own a camera or any lenses or know write a Fuji help book has absolutely nothing to do with knowing about business and whether Nikon will survive or not or whether Nikon is supposedly being sold off. But even then, nothing he speaks of has no proof, no smoking gun, no hard fact, just speculation that someone he knows on the inside has told him....
As for owning Nikon cameras and lenses, I've owned 9 Nikon cameras and about 30 Nikon lenses. Again, I couldn't care less if he owned 1,000 cameras and lenses, it still doesn't make him an expert on Nikon's finances, where they are heading or whether he actually has real inside information. ...Show more →
@Lance B: it's obvious; ownership of nikon gear = instant expertise in the finance and marketing strategy of nikon.

Name a Nikon Z camera, or a Nikon S series lens that has lasted even 5 years. That is only 1/2 the standard you are setting for the Sony equipment. Plenty of Sony a7 series, and Sony lenses have lasted that long. No Nikon mirrorless ICL camera or native lens has. There are no Nikon Z/S cameras or lenses that old for the very same reason that there are no a7 cameras 10 years old. It is a silly silly question you ask.
The dimensions of Nikon bodies decreased as they moved to mirrorless. This is a function of the cameras no longer needing a big fat mirrorbox. It has nothing to do with durability.
As you can see, this whole line of questioning is actually a meaningless proposition. Straight nonsensical logic.
Imagemaster's statement of B.S. seems valid enough. ...Show more →

Now that the FUJIFILM/NIKON merger is removed from the "stage", let's guess why the industry (Led by NIKON) is loading their losses into last quarter. First, loss loading is a true art practiced ONLY by seasoned top managements as it requires subtle large shareholder advance notification–so as to soothe the temporary pain. Now, bad revenue reporting is good for share-buying only if there is something big coming.
Our lead ventilators/arm-wavers on this thread don't know that ... but the OP's video guy/NIKON agent sure does.

That is an excellent point! The following three (3) Financial Results...
Could prove to be very revealing:
NIKON CORPORATION -- Consolidated Financial Results of the Second Quarter Ended September 30, 2020 (IFRS)
NIKON CORPORATION -- Consolidated Financial Results of the Third Quarter Ended December 31, 2020 (IFRS)
NIKON CORPORATION -- Consolidated Financial Results of the Fourth Quarter Ended March 31, 2021 (IFRS)

I think Nikon is likely to fail. If anyone has any pro Nikkor (trash) lenses they'd like to ship me please pm me...
Nikon will either survive as they have for many years, or they will be purchased by a (financially) healthier company that can invest more heavily into their product line. Move along.

Actually not likely to be very revealing as we already now all of those financial results will be heavily affected by the pandemic. The next few financial results after that, if indeed there is a vaccine developed and the pandemic eases/ends, will likely be much more revealing.

Often done by new management that can blame the loses and drop in share price on pervious leadership. This gives new management a low starting point to look successful, and self enrichment as and executive compensation is often heavily linked to share price appreciation. This is clearly not the case here.
It could be argued that management is using the Covid-19 crises as cover to clean up some financial issues on the books, and redundant resources in personnel and facilities. However, this started well before the Covid-19 crisis existed. So that is not the main driver.
Also sometimes used as an enrichment strategy for insiders, and large shareholder groups. Usually that is accompanied by insider buying and corporate buy backs. If not done very carefully this can be charged as a stock manipulation crime. However, in this case the insiders, large institutional investors, and buy backs are not happening. In fact the opposite is true. The largest activist investor fund has recently sold all of it U.S. shares.
So, either it is early in the game, or this is not the clever stock price manipulation gambit.
At this point, there is no more supporting evidence for this theory than there there is for Wheelers video.
Most likely this theory serves as a pacifier for anxiety for those emotionally invested by framing the problems as part of a clever master plan rather that a reflection of the true state of things. people would often rather feel manipulated than face facts.

The successful release of important new competitive products, combined with the force multiplier of a Covid-19 solution certainly has the potential for big upside financial results. I give this a strong likelihood of happening. Finger crossed!

Actually many businesses will sink because of the pandemic. With little money coming in the door...you can only float for so long.

Speaking of the release of 'competitive' New Products from Nikon...
What do Forum Members think about the 'possibility' of there being a D850 (D880) DSLR successor?
--
I realize of course, that it has only been approximately three (3) years now...
Since the D850 was officially announced/launched/and first shipped.

Yes, that is true, but poor results during the pandemic don't really tell us anything. That is to be expected. What will be much more informative will be how Nikon performs as we come out of the pandemic.

I hope that happens too, but I don't look for a COVID-19 solution until after the 2020-2021 (April 2020 - March 2021) fiscal year. The next fiscal year we should get a much better handle on how Nikon is doing.

The results were poor going into the pandemic as well.
