Yep, no proof or validation at this point.

And this has exactly what to do with his so called predictions? Whether I know how to shoot a camera, own a camera or any lenses or know write a Fuji help book has absolutely nothing to do with knowing about business and whether Nikon will survive or not or whether Nikon is supposedly being sold off. But even then, nothing he speaks of has no proof, no smoking gun, no hard fact, just speculation that someone he knows on the inside has told him....

As for owning Nikon cameras and lenses, I've owned 9 Nikon cameras and about 30 Nikon lenses. Again, I couldn't care less if he owned 1,000 cameras and lenses, it still doesn't make him an expert on Nikon's finances, where they are heading or whether he actually has real inside information.

nikon & canon have a long history in optical design and camera manufacturing.

sony is a maker of electronics. sony bought konica-minolta to get into the dslr business. sony would love to buyout nikon to compete against canon.

Yes, buying Nikon would be the quickest path to the #1 position in the camera market to match their #1 position in imaging sensors. Sony has repeatedly stated this as their goal.

Sony could certainly benefit from acquiring the optical component of Nikon. The camera division is a bit behind technology wise compared to what Sony already has in house.

The real question is whether the goal of being #1 is still of primary importance to Sony. Being #1 in the rapidly deteriorating camera market may not make financial sense anymore.

Another consideration is what would Sony be will to pay to own Nikon's poorly performing camera business. For a company with pockets as deep as Sony, it is now very close to being possible to get Nikon's camera business for free, or even get paid to acquire it. The last time I enquired about the book value of Nikon the consensus I got from multiple investment banking firms was about $14 per share. Book value is the amount per share that the company could be liquidated for. With Nikon share price in the $7 range, theoretically Sony could make an offer to buy and get the camera division for free. I think $7 is still not low enough to make such a move irresistible. I would think that number needs to be in the $5 range. But is is within striking distance.

Of course such a move would require a battle for shareholder support, and government permission. This is an expensive proposition at best. A straight purchase is the path of least resistance if in fact the camera division is in play.

This is all so fun to watch.

Whataboutism: Whataboutism, also known as whataboutery, is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy that attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument. Whataboutism is particularly associated with Soviet and Russian propaganda.

Doesn't matter where we stand. It doesn't change the fact what TAP is about. He's just.. noise. It's why we tune him out. I too used to watch him back in 2017. I got brainwashed into getting the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 because of how much he raved about it. But then I realized while it's good, but it's not as good as he made it out to be.

This is the kind of warning our parents give us. Be careful of the influence you have around you. TAP is bad juju.

It is a no brainer how abysmal camera market is going to be this year. Do we really need insider's tip to tell us that it is bad?
Worse than he thought, obviously he thought wrong initially and what make it so that he now thinks better. His so call inside information ? I have all kind of inside informations that I can tell you about ......

Well in social media you are only as good as your last presentation and if it turns out to be all lies, credibility comes into play. Personally I see zero reason for this guy to make this up. What's the payoff for him? I don't see why he'd fabricate this information.

I have impeccable credentials . . . I suspect you have impeccable credentials too.

This is just rumor dressed up as fact - and not even all that well dressed.

Between the longterm down spiral in camera sales, and the market conditions accelerated by a pandemic with a publicly traded company, this is a 'Duh' moment.

Anyone who thinks things are NOT going to change is clueless about technology, economics and business.

I am very sorry too hear, that you are so susceptible to 'Brainwashing' (*Your words not mine).

Which 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens @ the price point of the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens --
Do you think is superior? What is your 'Recommendation' at this price?

Like Ken is always saying... "Compared To What?"

F’ing yes, THANK YOU. This guy is a basement dwelling hysteria miner. Go check out the lunacy that is his Instagram - where he calls Einstein a - I quote - “hairy asshole.”

“Even a broken clock is right twice a day” - any moron can call a camera business prediction and be right occasionally. This guy believes magnetism is the cure of our ills and has even claimed “the Earth may be flat.”

His Nikon news, like his pseudoscience, is just meant to drive clicks and it’s sad that posting this dreck is permitted here.

I really hope Nikon cuts ties with him entirely - it’s to their benefit.

I actually have no credentials that provide me inside information on camera companies. I only have publicly available information to go by. Which is an important distinction because I am doing a little trading in camera company equities for the last couple of years.

Now, maybe I have some credibility (different than credentials) since I am currently batting 100% in the green (longs and shorts) on these trades. Wheeler is also batting 100% on his camera division is being sold information. One time is not a credible resume however.

Hopefully Nikon as a brand will get past any financial issues, i still think they make the best cameras in the world.

It’s worth noting that “That Nikon Guy’ is planning on buying Z’s when the z6/z7 refresh arrives, he sold his stuff now because he’s not working and wanted to bank the value. Purely a business decision for him

Assume for a moment that the OP's video presenter is correct ... that NIKON will divest its imaging business, including the wildly profitable (via royalty revenue) lens division. Who would it be?

How about as a wholly owned FUJIFILM division.

* The merged product lines match up perfectly:
GFX Medium format/NIKON's FF and FUJIFILM's dominant APSC line.

Covers the stills waterfront.

Let's also be mindful of the coming Panasonic 8K global shutter, 17 stop dynamic range video-stills monster lurking in a handful of quarters. They are set to hand SONY its lunch even as CANON has a dimmed future in light of cell phone, multi capture lens inroads.

Interesting...

I wasn't aware of the fact... That he was planning on going with Nikon Z Series Mirrorless.
Did you read this somewhere or was it in one of his latest YouTube Videos?

Someone in this thread mentioned that he was cut out of the Z5 pre-release, implying he had some sort of prior early access (presumably because he has a large YT following… of insane people). My point was: good. I hope he’s cut out completely and indefinitely. He’s nuts.
