He is an interesting character that one. He may be a lot of things, but he is a 100% pro Nikon. What really shocked me was when "That Nikon Guy" sold off all his Nikon stuff, thatīs a big red flag if i ever saw one.

Hopefully Nikon as a brand will get past any financial issues, i still think they make the best cameras in the world.

Agreed in full 110%...

YES! Ken is most definitely a Nikon (and FujiFilm) guy.

Who is this Taipei Geek anyways? What is his area of 'expertise' in the Photographic Industry...
Or within the Nikon Community?

Let me see... In the last 4 1/2 years, his Blog has a Grand Total 'whopping' 5,848 visitors.
--
The last time that I checked...

This is a Photography Forum and NOT a Forum for things like Casio Watch Reviews...
Or Lists of Sedans -- By the 'various' Automobile Manufacturers.

Enough said... End of discussion...

Ken Wheeler is not my favorite source of information. His style is not appealing to me. But, he sometime is ahead of the curve on some things, and does have a lot of connections in the industry including Nikon.

It is worth taking note that earlier this year he got offended when Nikon didn't include him, and provide him with review samples of some new releases.

It is clear that of the big 3 camera companies Nikon is facing the biggest challenges technologically, and financially. OK, that happens, and is often a cyclical thing. However, rumors/opinions such as this are becoming more widespread, and more frequently expressed. This is worrisome on two levels. First "where there is smoke, there is often fire". Second, if this view becomes widespread enough it can become a self fulfilling prophecy. and discourage people from buying a company's products.

Let's hope this is just bad feelings on Wheeler's part, and is B.S. or at least greatly exaggerated.

I agree. His 'style' (or lack thereof) does turn a lot of people off. But, like you so eloquently stated, he is also 'ahead' of the curve
(On some things)... Such as when he previously reported on the state of Olympus -- In late 2019.
--
I too, would wholeheartedly agree with you about the state of the the 'Major' Camera Manufacturers.
IMO only... It would 'appear' that Sony, Canon, FujiFilm and 'perhaps' even Panasonic are all in a better Financial position moving forward -- Than what Nikon currently is?
--
Yes... That is is a very valid point!
I also think that Ken was quite 'Hurt' that Nikon did not previously send him a Nikon Z5 for review.

However, I also think that Ken is correct when he says that Nikon is a bit of an 'arrogant' company --
That still thinks that they are too big to ever fail ('think' Kodak, IBM etc).
--
As noted by others in this thread already... Ken is definitely a Nikon' guy. Therefore, I am pretty sure, that his video is not based on 'mere' bad feelings -- Any more than his 'previous' Olympus video was.

It also should be noted... That nowhere does Ken say that he thinks that Nikon is ever going to fail, disappear or totally go under.
However, he does say in his comments that (*In his opinion only) that they may 'eventually' be Bought-out/Sold/Restructured/ etc.? ? ?
--
Like my original post stated... I guess "Only Time Will Tell" what the 'current' state of Nikon's Financial Affairs truly is and what "May Or May Not" take place in their short-term future.

Hopefully... It will all turn out for the very best!

nikon & canon have a long history in optical design and camera manufacturing.

sony is a maker of electronics. sony bought konica-minolta to get into the dslr business. sony would love to buyout nikon to compete against canon.

At this point and the trajectory that both Sony and the market is moving, it doesn't need to.

There is no arguing with that statement.

I agree. If that is what Sony feels that it will take to be #1...
A 'Corporate Merger' like the one that you just proposed -- Is never totally "Out Of The Question".

Strangers things have happened before...

Issue - flagging youtube clicks.
Solution - post FUD and sit back and watch the $$s roll in.

p.1 #14 · NIKON NEWS -- Worse than I thought (*NOT my words).

I remembered when I got D70 in 2004, Nikon had only aps-c D100 and D70 (OK and a D1 with 2.7 mp that not many people was paying attention to by 2004) , Canon had aps-c, 1.3 cropped sensor then FF sensor. While Canon went to 12 mp, Nikon was stuck at 6mp then 21mp when Nikon finally made it to 12mp. CMOS and CCD war was over (and I really missed my 1/8000s flash sync speed). At that time, everything looked very bleak for Nikon and grass was much greener on the other side and Canon was leapfrogging Nikon at every corner. Then thing started to turn around with D3/D300+ D700.
Nikon's line up now does not look as bleak as 2004-2006 period and they built a solid foundation with Z mount. They only just started to fill their products at various price point and it will be awhile longer before Z mount lens line up will be big enough to attract new comers rather than just maintaining old customer base.
Granted that this time, Nikon's job is more difficult as the market is shrinking rather than expanding like in the early 2000's. I think we just have to wait and see what will happened. Certainly this is a crucial time for Nikon and if they can't deliver, may be in 2-3 years time, it will definitely be a bad bad time for Nikon.

Not sure a post like this generates much income. He hasn't monetized this pst with affiliate links, or other methods. He just lists his standard donation channels. The amount YouTube pays per view is inconsequential at the numbers of views that he is getting on this.

Actually stating that people inside are telling him that Nikon is actively shopping the sale of it's camera division goes way beyond the usual YouTube click bait FUD. The only other time he has said such a thing he turned out to be correct, despite all the statements to the contrary by the parties involved.

That has to give you at least a little momentary pause.

@1bwana1...

>> Country: United States <<
>> City/State: Little China <<

Question: Is 'Little China' even a City in the USA?

Like Kens says... It is "Worse Than I Thought."

being 1st to the party doesn't always imply long term success; especially when it doesn't have the comparable bg & experience as nikon & canon.

No, but they have been making the products the market want and the market's trend of tilting towards video means buying Nikon adds no value to Sony. The conditions are for right Sony and Sony has the momentum to catch Canon on their own.

Well, we only have his word that sources inside Nikon have told him this or that they indeed know. However, it is not just about the clicks he gets with this particular video, but his overall ability for him to generate clicks long term. I mean, there is a reason he post Youtube videos and it isn't out of the goodness of his heart, far from it. Also, just because he was maybe right once doesn't mean anything.

He is suffering relevance depravation syndrome.
