AFAIK, only Leica offers that alternative. Which is exactly why I ordered the XE-5. It’s also why I don’t agree with all these comparisons with other cameras that are heavier and larger.

Question to those looking to buy this camera. Even though the standalone XF 23/2.8 lens won’t ship before December 2025 later this year can the kits with this lens included still become available in late August of 2025? Of course this assumes you pre-ordered quickly. Or is better not to order the kit and just find another lens to use with it like the XF 27/2.8 to keep it small? What are you hearing from your sources. Thank you.
According to multiple sources, the reason for the delay in availability for the lens alone is to ensure that there are enough for the initial orders of kits. We’ll see but I hope so as I preordered the kit package.

Thank you. I originally pre-ordered the kit in black since I will need a lens but not sure so the next day ordered the body only version.

First thing I would do is have a conversation about why you think you need higher resolution. Higher resolution is not a bad thing, and it can be useful for certain purposes. However, the 26MP of the XE4 is more than enough for most users.
If resolution is critical and you want interchangeable lens capability, Fujifilm’s XT5 is a better equipped camera at the same list price. I moved to it from the rangefinder-style XPro2 and I’m very happy with it.

Expect some of the first batch of kit lenses to get separated from the kit and resold at a handsome profit…

No doubt. Fuji really needs to get a better handle on their availability. To be fair, the number of factors to take into consideration now has to be making forecasting demand difficult.

That’ is still a very small camera for one that uses the entire line of interchangeable lenses. Again, not to say that you should upgrade from what you currently use, but (aside from the crazy price) the XE5 is overall a credible incremental advance in the XE line.
The technical stuff isn’t the issue with this camera. The price is.
No doubt the X-E5 is a capable camera - just growing in size away from what made the X-E line interesting.

I wonder if the 2+ month preorder to shipping time means they extended the time so they can actually produce more units by the time end of August/sept comes. If they claim supply issues or too much demand and they can't produce enough units by the time early September comes, it's clear this is artificial scarcity or they need to hire a new logistics team. At this point, they know the demand. Produce enough units then make your announcement.
Even the 2+month preorder to shipping time rubs me the wrong way. Make enough models to be able to fulfill all week 1 preorders based on previous metrics, make your announcement after the production of those first units are done, release 2 weeks later, continue to build from there.

Used to own both an X-E3 and X-T4 so familiar with the advantages of both style of bodies and I’m just not interested in a slr style body to use when I’m traveling unless I have the ability to take larger lenses. Currently own Sony full frame full size and compact size bodies so looking for something smaller and lighter than a Sony A7CII.

Could have been a perfect EDC, but... X-Trans? No thanks.
Also, why on earth those tiny buttons that are flush with the body, when there is plenty of room for large, tactile buttons that protrudes so you can actually feel them without looking?

I assume you refer to the 4 0z difference between the XE5 and the XT5? It is interesting to ponder that. Considering that extra card slot, the extra controls, and the generally “beefier” build, that’s not a lot.
When it comes to the 3 oz difference between the XE4 and XE5, I’d guess that some part of that is the IBIS mechanics, though I doubt that is the whole 3 oz. Adding the mechanism of the “sims” dial must add some small increment, along with things like the AF mode switch. individually these don’t count for much, but taken together they may start to add up.
Looking at weights with battery and card (and noting that the XE models use the older, smaller, lower cpacity batter), we see that the XE5 is about 3 oz heavier than the XE4, and the XT5 is a bit less than 4 oz heavier than the XE5.
Weights in grams for XT5, XE5, and XE4 (First is including card and battery, second number is without. Ounce conversions are rounded.)

I think 4 oz is a lot (that's 20% of the XT5's weight), but I also think they're trying to position the XE5 as a bit more of a premium product. If it were too light then some people would complain it's not built well. If it's too heavy then they'll complain too.
Most of the weight difference between the XT5 and XE5 is probably from the XT5's larger top plate, larger grip, deeper chassis, etc) -- the extra dials might add some weight too.

“A lot” is a pretty subjective thing. As a person who carries at XT5 in hand (usually with a wrist strap) while shooting street, sometimes for hours straight, these are not weights that I particularly notice. (I do notice the awkward hand position required to carry a camera of any sort for extended periods, but that’s a different issue.)
4 oz heavier (or 3 oz heavier) is heavier… but none of these are heavy.
If anything, the size difference might be more of an issue than the small weight difference for people who are cramming a smaller camera into a bag of some sort. I travel very light - we’re generally carry-on only travelers, even for weeks at a time. My XT5 with the 27mm f/2.8 fits into my customary very small cross-body bag, but it is tight… and I’m sure that the XE models would fit a bit easier with the same lens.
But, of course, size and weight generally get traded off against functionality, too. Others will find a different accommodation more to their liking, but for me the additional control features of the XT5 and its larger battery make the extra size worthwhile. Another photographer could well feel differently about that.

Yes, and in my subjective opinion, it is a lot.
It's probably not a weight difference that I notice "in the field" (especially as I'm also carrying the camera, with an attached lens, and often times additional lenses), but engineering-wise it makes sense that it's about 20% lighter than an XT5.
Wow, a good chunk of the 4 oz. is battery. If you have to carry a spare for the X-E, the difference is even less. I'm not knocking it, I think it shows the point of diminishing returns as physical size is reduced when you have the same components. To me, weight is very important since my X camera is going to be "worn" for long days of hiking. But realistically, lens choice is a bigger factor than camera body.

I think that the battery certainly makes a contribution. We can sort of extrapolate by looking at the differences between the lower and upper weights of each camera. Adding the battery and card increases the XT5 weight by 81g, while adding the same to the XE5 adds 48g. That’s almost 1.2 ounces more for the XT5 battery, and almost 1/3 of the difference.
Your point about extra batteries makes sense, too. My old XPro2 used the older, smaller batteries, and I would virtually never go out without carrying an extra battery. The XT5 battery has more capacity, and I virtually never carry an extra for a day’s shooting.
