Just an FYI for those still waiting on their black X-E5 and XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR kit. B&H sent me an email earlier today that my pre-order shipped. It was ordered at 7:29 AM on the 12th of June.
So they must have received a shipment from Fujifilm recently. Good luck if you are still waiting on yours.

Thanks for the update. I estimate that at this rate I'll receive shipment sometime in November. I ordered a kit (silver) on July 21. There were a few opportunities to purchase the kit elsewhere, but I was optimistic that the wait would be short. Oh well, live and learn.

The more I use this combo, the more I love it. I seriously considered listing it after I got it. That would have been a big mistake. I think anyone that used and liked an XE series will appreciate this camera. If the XE wasn't your thing, this probably won't be either.

Nice camera but buttons need a lock, so easy to spin a wheel without intention. Front and back dial are so slim too.
I like it but so easy to move settings if you try to leave it in the pocket.

That’s long been an issue with the little XE bodies. (It was for me way back when I got a new XE1 years ago.)

Some subtle redesign and repositioning of certain controls has improved the situation, but you’ll need to use the camera for a while in order to adapt to its interface, at which point the issue diminishes. (And I suspect that some features do have methods ot lock settings. With that very old XE1, for example, at first I kept slipping it into some “macro”mode by accident until I found an easy way to lock that setting.)

That’s all part of the plus/minus balance of the extra small cameras. If you make the camera very small and you still want extensive controls… they tend to be closely spaced and harder to avoid.

You can lock settings. According to AI: On the Fujifilm X-E5, you can lock specific settings rather than applying a universal camera lock. The most common way to do this is by assigning lock functions to one of the customizable buttons on the camera.
How to lock settings
Select the lockable functions: Go to the camera's main menu, and under SETUP (the wrench icon), find the BUTTON/DIAL SETTING menu.
Navigate to LOCK SETTING: Inside the BUTTON/DIAL SETTING menu, choose LOCK SETTING.
Choose SELECTED FUNCTION: From the LOCK SETTING menu, select SELECTED FUNCTION.
Choose the controls to lock: A list of customizable controls will appear. Select which controls you want to lock, such as the shutter speed, aperture, or exposure compensation.
Assign the lock function to a button: To trigger the lock, you must now assign the lock function to one of your camera's customizable Function (Fn) buttons.
Use the lock: Press and hold the assigned Fn button to lock the selected controls. Repeat the process to unlock them.
Common quick-lock functions
You can also set up quick locks for specific photography functions. For instance, you can configure an Fn button to lock focus (AF-L) or exposure (AE-L) with a single press.
Lock focus and exposure: To quickly lock both focus and exposure simultaneously, assign AE&AF LOCK to one of your Fn buttons.
Set the button behavior: In the BUTTON/DIAL SETTING menu, you can choose how the lock button functions:
AE&AF ON WHEN PRESSING: The setting is locked only while you hold the button.
AE&AF ON/OFF SWITCH: The setting locks with a single press and stays locked until you press the button again.

I can't vouch for these instructions but I have locked certain functions in the past.

I really don't like how the intial movement of the LCD to tilt feels like it's scraping against the camera. It's extremely awkward to the point I'm questioning if it's actually faulty.

Same when you push it back in after only tilting it a little bit. It's almost at the point where the actual screen display is pressing up against the metal. It's like scraping it and there's only like 0.5mm of bezel there. Feels like it actually gets caught on it too sometimes, anyone else have this or is mine actually poor tolerance.

If I tilt a tiny bit, it's okay, then pull it out to tilt it further. Might just have to learn the behavior.

The x100vi tilts much smoother, but it also doesn't have to do that 180 degrees rear facing movement so I'm not sure if this is the price to pay.

Are you confusing clicks and clunks with scrapes? There's no scraping sounds.

Maybe yours is just bad. I tried 2 X100vi's and the over all impression was they felt cheap compared to the X-E5 build quality. My LCD is nice and tight the way it pulls out. Couldn't ask for more. Wish Sony took some notes

The on/off switch feel better (at least adaquetely stiff, possibly a little too stiff) than the x100vi, but not the screen tilting on mine.

Yours smoothly comes out with no friction against the top at all? Or only when you're very careful...

It's scraping against the top of the camera if I go past more than like 45 degrees without pulling the screen towards me and continuing the tilt.

I can feel the screen catching on the lip and getting stuck.

Clunky and stiff.

Even that initial 45 degrees tilt, sometimes it's catching in the top-right probably because the screen is tilting back in that corner when pulling up from the bottom left, especially with how stiff it is.

Haven't used it a tonne so will probably learn the smoothest motion, if there is one. Maybe a little tilt, then down and out and leave it out.

Still though, feel like the screen might crack at some point from pressing against the metal if not super careful with it if it doesn't loosen up some.

Feels like normal operation to me. Scraping would be shrill. Mine just makes clunking sounds. The screen is stiff, yes, so to me it feels more robust than the X10VI screen. Because of having used the more fragile-feeling VI screen, I always pull the X-E5 screen out with one finger just a little using the lip/catch. Then I use two fingers to grab both sides of the screen and pull away before fully rotating up.

Will definitely always use two fingers to pull it back, good call. Even with this it can still catch for me.

Looking closer from the bottom when lifting it up a little, I can see the screen itself is indeed clearly tilted towards the top-right.
That's what's causing it to catch there on mine, so just before I'm pulling it out with 2 fingers, a little twist back and it comes out smooth. Easy enough to do since using two fingers to pull back the screen anyway.

It's too stiff imo, hopefully it will loosen up with time and become less of an issue but less worried about it breaking and think this will be quick to learn with muscle memory.

I put some electrical tape after the first post on the top of the screen just to soften it a touch xD. Using that for everything except electric stuff.

With the x100vi, it's one finger tilt and the screen moves down and out, never even thought about it. My X-E5 just rotates without moving down to give clearance.
