One of the main selling points of the X-E line for me has been its size. Small and unobstrusive, it still contained the image quality and technical features of its larger siblings.
The X-E5 is now the size of the X100VI (though not as thick). Too bad.
So, sill slighlty smaller than the X100vi overall, right? ;-)
That’ is still a very small camera for one that uses the entire line of interchangeable lenses. Again, not to say that you should upgrade from what you currently use, but (aside from the crazy price) the XE5 is overall a credible incremental advance in the XE line.
The technical stuff isn’t the issue with this camera. The price is.
No doubt the X-E5 is a capable camera - just growing in size away from what made the X-E line interesting.
The XT5 is pretty small, but it is larger than the XE — I cannot deny that.
I was surprised to see only 4oz. between the two on body weight though.
I assume you refer to the 4 0z difference between the XE4 and the XE5? It is interesting to ponder that. The XE5 is still a pretty compact and light body, but the percentage difference in weight — while probably something that users will not really register much — is not entirely insignificant.
I’d guess that some part of that is the IBIS mechanics, though I doubt that is the whole 4 oz. Adding the mechanism of the “sims” dial must add some small increment, along with things like the AF mode switch. individually these don’t count for much, but taken together they may start to add up.
Weights in grams for XT5, XE5, and XE4 (First is including card and battery, second number is without. Ounce conversions are rounded.)
XT-5
557g (19.6oz)
476g (16.8oz)
X-E5
445g (15.7oz)
396g (14oz)
X-E4
364g (12.8oz)
315g (11.1oz)
