I’m looking for something as an EDC, smaller than my X-T5 and XF 16-55mm Mk2, for my newly retired daily constitutional walk. I’ve been eyeing my wife’s X-S20 and XF 16-50mm as something I could “borrow”. Pre-announcement, my vote was “maybe”. Yesterday B&H had the X100VI in stock and I went back and forth on whether to pull the trigger. I settled on if the X-E5 body was similar to the VI, I’d pre-order with the new pancake. Seeing the video reviews, especially Luke Rollins’ on B&H, convinced me to pre-order the black kit.

If XE5 MSRP is priced at $1400, street price would be $1700+ anyway. A used 4 year old XE4 is still selling higher than it's MSRP today. Instead of giving money to scalpers, you give money to US Treasury.
Tariff is not all bad. Almost 100% of pick up trucks running in US streets are made in USA. Why is that?
I would say that for some other parts of the world trucks are not very popular. In europe we prefer smaller cars for various reasons, so it’s not surprising that most trucks are made in the US.

And then there’s the difference between final assembly in the US vs truly US produced. 25-30% parts are imported typically, for some models much more than that.
I guess if you allowed Fuji to slap a final screw on those cameras in the US and that would make them US-produced and not subject to tariffs, they’d probably do that.

The price in the Czech Republic for the X-E5 body alone is 1000 CZK (40 EUR) lower than the X-T50. It doesn't seem cheap to me, but I didn't expect a lower price.

Having just returned from— again — a long visit to European countries, I can confirm hat American trucks are a true rarity in Europe. You barely ever even see one. I think I saw one or two Jeep branded smaller SUVs this time, but that’s about it.
You don’t see many pickup trucks at all, even in rural, agricultural areas. In those areas (on this trip, walking in the Douro River grape-growing areas) when I did see a pickup truck it was always a Toyota. Fords? GM/Chevy? Dodge? Nope.
BTW, a little googling reveals that a whole bunch of “American” trucks are made elsewhere and/or incorporate a high percentage of components manufactured in other countries. That’s how the automobile business works now.

I 'm with you. Happy with my XT3, and X100V. Will be looking for an
XT5 from an XE5 buyer. I like the new XE5, but can't see the value for
money at the current pricing.
I gave my spouse my old X100S. She loves it. She got great shots of aurora in Iceland, snaps in London and Paris, and won't swap out if even I am willing to buy her the latest and greatest. Older equipment still take great shots!

Couldn't agree more, I bought an X-T10 recently and am having a ball with it.

I don't understand why these manufacturers use such horrible EVF modules in their expensive cameras. This and the Sony A7c series have awful viewfinders, esp when you consider the cost of the bodies. Come on Sony, Fuji, etc. spend the extra $20 and give us a decent 3.2mp+ portal to the world.

I completely agree, the 3.69 million dot EVF on the X-T5 is just good enough. I would love to see that 5+ of the Gfx100SII on my next X camera body.

I think you might be underestimating the cost of a viewfinder but I agree, they could have at the very least upgraded the XE4's viewfinder.

I really like the photos from the 23mm f2.8 lens. After the 35mm f1.4 lens, it's another lens from Fuji that has a bit of character and isn't sterilely perfect.

One of the main selling points of the X-E line for me has been its size. Small and unobstrusive, it still contained the image quality and technical features of its larger siblings.
The X-E5 is now the size of the X100VI (though not as thick). Too bad.

I put a lot of importance on EVF specs and manual focusing tools as much of what I shoot is MF. Since the X-E5 doesn't impress in this area, I have no interest in purchasing. And after seeing the price, I have a new found appreciation for my old X-T30.

So, sill slighlty smaller than the X100vi overall, right? ;-)
That’ is still a very small camera for one that uses the entire line of interchangeable lenses. Again, not to say that you should upgrade from what you currently use, but (aside from the crazy price) the XE5 is overall a credible incremental advance in the XE line.
The technical stuff isn’t the issue with this camera. The price is.

So if you wanted a rangefinder style interchangeable lens camera that was small and higher resolution what else would people recommend here?

Question to those looking to buy this camera. Even though the standalone XF 23/2.8 lens won’t ship before December 2025 later this year can the kits with this lens included still become available in late August of 2025? Of course this assumes you pre-ordered quickly. Or is better not to order the kit and just find another lens to use with it like the XF 27/2.8 to keep it small? What are you hearing from your sources. Thank you.
