Oh I'm sorry perhaps I should have been more specific. A Pro body by design to me has always been one with a fixed designed grip and larger battery. That's all I really meant for the most part. Added buttons usually come with the territory as well.

The VR is so good with the Z8 - 400 4.5 combo that I don’t even notice it anymore. The 500pf appeared to jump around a lot , even in sports mode it just wasn’t as smooth. I no longer have it to do a side by side comparison , may actually be the body that makes the difference?

Anyone have both lenses and an older Z body ?
Indeed, stabilization is amazing on the z8.
I shot waterfall pictures with my 24-120mm f4 S during a day hike on Sunday at a shutter speed of 1/4s (~70mm focal length) and I got a reasonable ratio of critically sharp images that would be suitable for an exhibition grade a1 print. Very close to 4x5 quality.
I never tried the same on my Z9 since I usually carry a tripod when I anticipate such opportunities, so it may be just as good, but I was still impressed.
The screen articulated along vertical axis and accurate level display were also super helpful. I could simply not have gotten the most successful image without it. There is simply no other camera on the market with this combination of features and lenses.

ON1 released Z8 support today for those who use that editor. I think PS/LR and Capture One are the only others supporting it at the moment. DXO will be July, which is a bit surprising since I would imagine it's just their Z9 algorithm, but perhaps there's something behind the scenes that gives them more hassle.

Would you please give more explanation to these:
"The 500pf "appeared" to jump around a lot even in sports mode it just wasn't smooth."
"I no longer have it to do a side by side comparison, may actually be the body that makes the difference."
If you no longer have the 500PF for a side by side, how can you know? Was the 500PF performance from your recollection and was it on a DSLR or on a Z?
Thanks

Honestly, I am not trying to make an issue here. .
I hope to soon test the Z8 with my 500PF. The following is excerpted from NUSA's promo for the extraordinary 400 4.5 VR S:
"Up to 6.0 stops of VR.
Extraordinary built-in optical VR achieves an effect of shooting up to 6.0 stops* faster on a camera that supports Synchro VR and 5.5 stops* faster on all other Z cameras. Drag the shutter with confidence for smooth panning shots."

Thanks JustShootMe
I know you are right Gary. It does not.
That word "synchro" clears up some of my confusion with this.
It would be very helpful if Nikon had a comprehensive online statement that explains everything on their stabilizaiton. technology. It is exciting Nikon but "what has what" and "what does not" and what does "this and that" mean ?
Examples: I just looked at the specs for the 500PF and under Specs and VR is just says "Yes". Well... how many stops Nikon?
NUSA's Z8 specs says nothing about image stabilization in the camera. Surely we know it is there. Maybe I missed it.

It’s probably a combination of blackout free viewfinder , synchroVR , and the center of gravity of the lens moved closer to the body rather than the larger front elements in the older design.

Z8 out for delivery...quite a week, got my Mac Studio as well, had to migrate and merge my LR catalogs to new external drives...everything changing rapidly over here

I talked with a Nikon technician at length. He did considerable searching for me and sent a couple of links. I do not think these links were very informative (current) though.
We concluded that there is probably no single comprehensive document online that explains all the current technology on VR.
Yes, some Z cameras do have electronic VR and you already know that the Z8/Z9 both do.
However, *apparently* this electronic VR does not work with an F mount lens that requires the FTZ adapter (see image below).
I accept this. And I now look forward to the Z lens of my choice that has IBIS (but specifically, what is IBIS?). Ok, lukemeup clarified that below. So for maximum stabilization (5 stops?) we need IBIS (that is in the camera) and a lens that synchs with it..... correct ?
We are still assuming a lot while Nikon has still not provided the information so we can know for certain. That is what irks me. If I am wrong on any of. this I will retract and admit my mistake
So often......Ricci, Matt Irwin, Steve Perry. Jan (spelling?) and the like do a better job of explaining what we need to know....than NUSA does.
Did you know that the Z8 Reference Manual is more detailed than the Z8 User's Manual.? I didn't.

Lenses don't have IBIS. Image sensor based image stabilization = that's in camera bodies only.
Ahh, now I see the meaning of the acronym.
The Nikon technician did not use the acronym IBIS. He said "electronic stabilization" or "electronic VR" (so apparently this is the same as IBIS. Apparently this is IBIS.
p.34 #17 · Nikon unveils the highly anticipated Z8 camera!
No, electronic VR is a video only feature and it does not involve sensor movement. It is data processing which aligns recorded image frames to stabilize the video.

Thank you for clarifying this.
IBIS = In body image stabilization (Body)
VR - Vibration Reduction (Lenses)
there is also digital stabilization that usually requires a crop of the image to stabilize the image via software.
Newer bodies with IBIS + newer lenses with VR work in unison .. synchronized

The reason you see stabilization differences between adapted and native lenses is because adapted lenses give only 3 axis stabilization while native ones give 5 axis stabilization (refer to the table here: https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/na/NSG_article?articleNo=000042799&configured=1&lang=en_SG, if the link doesn't work - just google 'VR image stabilization for Z-series mirrorless cameras').
You can also use google to find what the difference between 3 and 5 axis is.

Here we go with more confusion. Not your fault but you should back this with a reference please.
As I said, the Nikon technician (Tim) used the words "electronic stabilization" or "electronic VR".
Now it is possible (maybe likely) that he was referring to video as well (as you are here). But I cannot know because it was a conversation.
All of this could be avoided/clarified by a comprehensive online document from NUSA on this.
