The VR is so good with the Z8 - 400 4.5 combo that I don’t even notice it anymore. The 500pf appeared to jump around a lot , even in sports mode it just wasn’t as smooth. I no longer have it to do a side by side comparison , may actually be the body that makes the difference?

Anyone have both lenses and an older Z body ?

Would you please give more explanation to these:

"The 500pf "appeared" to jump around a lot even in sports mode it just wasn't smooth."

"I no longer have it to do a side by side comparison, may actually be the body that makes the difference."

If you no longer have the 500PF for a side by side, how can you know? Was the 500PF performance from your recollection and was it on a DSLR or on a Z?

Thanks

Honestly, I am not trying to make an issue here. .

I hope to soon test the Z8 with my 500PF. The following is excerpted from NUSA's promo for the extraordinary 400 4.5 VR S:

"Up to 6.0 stops of VR.
Extraordinary built-in optical VR achieves an effect of shooting up to 6.0 stops* faster on a camera that supports Synchro VR and 5.5 stops* faster on all other Z cameras. Drag the shutter with confidence for smooth panning shots."

Again, those are Nikon's promo words.

I don't believe the 500PF supports syncho stabilization -- only Z-lenses with VR have that capability? (Could be wrong).

Edit: FWIW I remember shooting the 500pf on a Z7 -- the "synchro" stabilization on my Z9 + 100-400 is in another league entirely.
