There's a poster in here that said he placed his order a week after preorder was opened and his order was shipped today. Doesn't seem to be any kind of backlog. Looks like anyone that wants one is going to be able to get one.
That is a good thing isn’t it?

Guess you can read into it a couple ways . No one is buying or they got a head start on production and got it ready to deliver for the holidays faster. Maybe something with the pandemic

mine left the UPS hub in TN tonight (pre-order at adorama) and is suppose to arrive tomorrow by 1pm ( - earliest overnight is normally 4pm) but it has been snowing all day and UPS flys into an airport 3 hours south of my town. it has to get loaded on a trailer, delivered to the city 40 minutes south of my house, transferred to the local truck and then driven up here. Fortunately the local driver has my cell and will call if he doesn’t think he can drive .5 miles up our steep, icy narrow road in the forest so i meet him down at the mailboxes. fingers crossed i get it anytime tomorrow
would be good to start a new thread based upon actual usage/experiences.

I waited and ordered a couple weeks ago, I was so pissed about the way Sony does not offer updates on their flagship camera. Shipped yesterday and delivery is tomorrow. I suspect that an earlier poster could be right about the Rv not enjoying the huge sales of previous bodies.
(Explanation for those that missed my earlier rant: I really enjoy and heavily use my A1 for bird photography, but I also like macro and landscape, both of which benefit from focus stacking, which I believe to be a relatively simple feature to implement in a firmware update in the A1).

I get that you were pissed and rightly so IMO, but you can't reward their bad behavior by purchasing their $4000 camera, lol.

Our memory seems to be selectively short. I remembered Sony did a major FW upgrade for the A9; it was pretty much a complete revamp that the A9 felt like it was a different camera. And the price of the used A9 did go up for a while or at least, it remained stable. Frankly, that was the only time Sony did that that I am aware of. Now, it would be awesome if Sony does a similar major FW upgrade with the A1…

Shipping can be hit or miss. Overnight my delivery slipped out a day from Tuesday to Wednesday. T’is the season to cross your fingers and hope for the best. I plan to have the new features compliment my A1, not replace it. Could never own just one body for a specific lens mount. Some kind of backup is always needed now that I sold my A7IV and A7RIV.
That tells me they been building them for awhile. I never heard of a non popular retail store get at least 12 in stock. Nothing wrong with Beach as I have bought from them but that's a lot of cameras in stock
For me it's good news if I want to move on there maybe no waiting.

my R5 left Billings (not missoula) at 6:42 this am. that is a 7hr drive in good weather to the transfer depot and then on Local truck making lots of stops before me. we are literally the last stop off the day.

A7R3 also got a HUGE EyeAF update. That was about the last big update from Sony to a flagship body, added features wise.

Another quick video of something the RV can do that no other Sony video camera can do "currently". I'm not a big video guy but I can see a use for this when I do shoot video. Nice job Sony

So, they put this feature in the RV but not the 11k video specific camera or the higher quality video A1? I wonder what the reasoning is for that.
More than anything else, or more specifically, with this info, I'm more convinced than before that there will be a firmware update on the A1 to include some of the features of the RV.

I'm not so sure. I think we have a better chance of seeing an Aii sooner rather than later only because I do believe some of the stuff is hardware related. As we have seen speed does not mean better AF in all scenarios. People mock it but I think that AI chip is the game changer. And that is needed in the Aii to take that to the next level.
