I can't. If I was going to pay this price I would go for an A1. The A7RlV for sale price or almost new used for ~$2200 would be for me. The new features are not really exciting for me.
Of course I'm on a limited budget, not a pro and really don't need the speed or video.
I like the new LCD screen. Seems best of all they've produced. Time to upgrade my RIII? Budge will be an issue. I also want to upgrade my 2015 13" macbook pro, so maybe next year.
Thought Gerald Undone's review was pretty good, especially the ending.

This is a miss for me at this price point. Camera manufacturers, particularly those like Sony that run dominant sensor fabs, need to innovate more. Nothing about this camera is impressive in 2022.

Curious how the touch shutter works......how does it differentiate between touching the screen to focus vs to shoot? Maybe length of time finger is on the LCD?

One glaring plus is the Dual cards and Express cards at that. If I did have a A7RIV that alone would push me over the edge. Now that may not mean as much for others but any wedding/event/journalist type shooter that relies on backup than this is a a good upgrade plus some extra stuff and still wants to maintain MPX which most of those folks a 24mpx is good enough than this may not be so bad

I'm going to pass. I covet that EVF but don't need much else, and like others have said for this price I'd probably get a used A1 to replace both my A7R2 and my wife's A9.
Pretty sure the only thing that'll get me buying a new camera any time soon is an A7C form with good EVF. But, honestly I'm contemplating selling off most of my gear anyway, I just don't use it much anymore.

Definitely some improvements I’d appreciate, but not at $3900. I did get the r4 at launch for $2400 with that EDU discount so I guess nothing can really compare to that value wise

I just picked up a A7 IV and I'm very impressed with AF tracking. My only disappointment is sensor read-out but I don't think it will be any better with the new A7R V.
I have the A7 IV and the only thing I don't like about it is the sound of the mechanical shutter, which is a necessity due to the sensor read out. It's so loud compared to my Fujifilm bodies, or really any of the other mirrorless bodies I have tried. Does the A7R V have a quieter shutter compared to the A7 IV?
Either way I don't think I'll upgrade. I will probably wait for an A1 or A9 with the mappable exposure compensation dial and focus breathing comp.

If it's like other cameras you have to enable it specifically then it's just a single light touch on the LCD and it will focus and take the image. If it's not enabled touch just moves the focus position around (if you're in that focus mode).
Just a guess though as I've not seen any video or spec description.

Looks pretty nice! I already have an A1, so I’m not in the market.
I really hope Sony will put out a better firmware update to give the A1 some of the new features the newer cameras have. I think many are software based. And the A1’s hardware can handle it.

Because it’s not capable or because Sony isn’t willing?
Because A1 still didn't get animal eyeAF in video from A7IV (or other features for that matter)...
(Sorry, by now I'm a realist when it comes to current approach to updates shown by Sony)
Regarding RV, that lcd screen and IBIS look nice . I wonder what's the actual impact of the new (AI) AF in real use...

A couple years ago, a number of otherwise credible photographers claimed, on these forums, that Sony shot themselves in the feet by releasing a design with such a small lens mount - claiming that such limited lens speed and IBIS capability. Now we have a 50mm f1.2 lens (85mm f1.2 coming) and 8-stop IBIS(!). I love it.
As much as I admire the new V, I'm sticking with my A1's, although I would sure like to have the new IBIS and the tilt-swivel 3.2" LCD. I guess I will need to wait for the A1 II.

Question is how far are we from an A1 II release. If that is under development, we may never see some of these upgrades in the A1.
