I've watched some of the youtubes. Some of the brightlines are that video IS still lags, but IS for stills sees an improvement. Focus bracketing! Nice new articulating function, but the LCD resolution isn't improved. 10 fps shooting is still limited to compressed lossless RAW. Uncompressed drops you down to 6.5 fps or whatever. White balance improvements. Detect and toggle between faces in a scene. Stickier tracking of faces and eyes. I really want to see how it rolls for wildlife. Menu tile mode that looks interesting. USB 3.2. Bulb timer up to 900 seconds! Price increase.

There's lots to learn and of course the early reviews are cursory, but there are plenty of nuggets in them to suggest an overall impression of the camera. And since Sony insists on a staggered highly segmented approach to its cameras, the feature set here shouldn't surprise. Sony "protects" their a9 and a1 lines' speed and adds just enough to the a7r line to match and exceed the a7 line. I think the real question comes down to value, and I'm not convinced it's there. That's a lot of scratch extra over the a7IV for the extra resolution. At $4000 I would have expected more improvement in terms of overall speed and fps capabilities. There was plenty of room between the a9 and a1 and the a7rIV to add a few extra fps.

As it stands, the a7rV appears to be another case of the a7rII to the a7rIII: a worthy upgrade and the superior camera. Quality of life improvements and feature improvements, but not really an improvement in image quality and no improvement in motor drive or sensor readout.

Yes, there are some nice new features, especially in regards to AF tracking and IBIS. Finally focus bracketing!

Who is getting one? :-)

Not me! I got my R4 on a steal and the €4600 they want for the R5 here in Europe is mental.
I'm also very confused about the 'placement' of this camera in the market. Is this for hardcore professionals and landscapers? I'm also not sure if the A1 is getting firmware updates to some of the features that this R5 now has.
I can see the ISO performance and IBIS improvements as something that would benefit me, but the cost just doesn't make it work for me.

Having the A1 it looks like a pass for me. Focus bracketing means little to me as i done that manually for years so maybe im still old school on it. IBIS is a question mark. Glad to see dual cards

I see ONLY 1 custom function on top deck. Bummer

Still keep a open mind until we see more

I can't. If I was going to pay this price I would go for an A1. The A7RlV for sale price or almost new used for ~$2200 would be for me. The new features are not really exciting for me.

Of course I'm on a limited budget, not a pro and really don't need the speed or video.

Better than the R4? yes.
Worth an upgrade? not for me.
Looking forward to the R6

I just picked up a A7 IV and I'm very impressed with AF tracking. My only disappointment is sensor read-out but I don't think it will be any better with the new A7R V.

BTW you all owe me donuts . I said 3899. Glazed is perfect

If I was in the market for a body given this price , let's say a A1 used or discounted somewhere at 5400 and that maybe high . For maybe 1400/1700 more than that maybe a better option but I do need the Pro feature set of the A1 so I may not count here.

I do not intend to get the camera either.

Also, now using my Cambo Actus Mini B with my Sony Cameras again, since Sony has increased the size and shape of the grip (and I presume the camera has the same grip as my A1) when using my A1 with my Cambo Actus Mini B in the landscape orientation, the grip prevents shifting the camera body more than about 4mm to the left when using 35mm format lenses set at infinity. That is not the case for the camera in the portrait orientation. My A7rIII allows much less issues for shifting the camera to the left than my A1.

Giving this one serious thought. A7rIII was my first Sony purchase, still have it been waiting for something that makes me want to exchange it out. This is a strong contender!

The new multi-angle rear screen is the big plus for me.
The other features don't make up for the slow readout and rolling shutter when using electronic shutter. EFCS is still going to be an issue with the bokeh, at fast shutter speeds.
Focus AI can be fun (insects in particular), but the game changer for me was the eye AF added a few years ago.
Will wait for the detailed reviews and see if the DR and noise have improved from the A7RIV. But now I'm more interested in a used A1 to upgrade from my A7RIII.
