That is not good if true. If only NPS orders placed on day 1 will be delivered by the end of the year, that means NPS orders on day 1 alone will eat up their entire inventory.
Edit: upon reflection, I think by Day 1 NPS orders, they mean all NPS orders received by launch date (the date they start shipping) not only NPS orders received on the day of announcement. So, not so bad.

Agree, that's how I read it assuming Peter@NR's source is correct (and Peter is overall very accurate). I am adjusting my expectations for my 3rd in line non-NPS order and now thinking first quarter 2022 sometime. Which is fine for me.

That is interesting about the shutter wear and tear being what you are most excited about. I never have worried about wearing out a shutter. These things can last 250,000 clicks, and if they do fail, the repair cost is not that big of a deal. About $600 or so if I remember correctly.

While everyone is exciting about Z9 and there has really been no talk about Z Fc, it has been selling

I like the small lenses that Nikon are now putting out (28/2.8, 40/2 etc.) and think they're a good fit for most Z cameras which are relatively small (compared to what I'm used to). I think for Z fc to have continued appeal, they need more lenses that are practical on it. The 24mm DX sounds pretty good, paired with 40mm would make a nice compact kit. I wonder if they could add a 20mm and 16 mm. As it is now, I'm reluctant to buy the Z fc although I like it, I do require a practical f-stop and also wide-angle lenses that are ergonomically a good match to the relatively thin body. I can't for the life of me understand how one would use an f/6.3 lens on a DX camera, but that could be because I live at 60 degrees north and in wintertime we have pretty short daylight. f/4 makes me wince, f/2.8 - usable, f/2 - pretty good.

Nikon themselves have said that the NPS orders do not detract from the open stock sales for preordered cameras to the general public. The NPS orders will have no impact on whatever they ship in the first round of order to stores.

Yeah well my dealer told us a week after pre-orders started that they expected the massive NPS orders to impact non-NPS orders as NPS would get theirs first. There's so many stories on this. I'll just wait for first shipment and see what happens. The Net will be alive with data on it within days of that.

How can that even be possible?
There is a finite production that Nikon has created.
There is an unknown # of NPS orders they will receive.
Nikon says NPS will come first.
So unless Nikon has the capability to up production in the very short term after the NPS orders come in then NPS orders will affect the number that go to the stores in the first round of store shipments.
In the Japan press release they note they are considering increasing production but given the current climate may not be able to as soon as they'd want to. Therefore I doubt they were able to increase and make up the huge amount of NPS orders.

They expect Z9 product around Xmas, and I'm told my order (placed in March) should be within the first batch sent out, so we shall see. Certainly a level of excitement around this that's above and beyond recent Nikons per my chat with them.
Also placed a pre-pre order for the 400f2.8S Nikkor. I'm sure IQ will be stellar, but weight will be the decider for me. Fingers crossed it's light enough (~3kg) for handheld use or I will cancel.
I thought I'd be up for the PF lenses, but not sure if a 400f4.5 PF adds enough to the 500f5.6PF to justify a purchase.
