Nah, I bought all my nikon gear from this store. They sent me a pre/pre order invoice with a price quote TBD and they charge me when they get the goods

I noticed that too and thought perhaps Nikon actually releases the cameras on 12/15 and the dealers receive them the next day rather than getting them earlier but embargoed. I vaguely remember something similar with my D850 and Z7 ordered from District Camera.

That’s a good point. They may start shipping from NIKON USA in Melville NY on the 15th, and dealers close like Service would receive the next day. I’ll be curious to see if dealers outside the 1-day ground delivery zone receive theirs also the 16th from Melville via air or shipped earlier via ground. Or maybe Nikon USA is fine with actual release day being staggered throughout the US.
The other interesting question is whether it’s Nikon USA keeping dealers in the dark this close to launch, or if NUSA is actually still being kept in the dark by Nikon Japan.

Breath….I don’t think a couple days will matter, right? Plus, let’s be realistic, the vast majority of us are not in the first shipment anyway. Again, breath.

I will have the Z9 in hands this Friday but that is the one and only Z9 that is currently in Belgium. I will have it 30min in hands to sniff it out and attach my 500mm E on it
On the order list am I number 4 so curious if it will happen on the 15th or not. Patience is virtue they say but can't always agree with it

I think with global shipping everything is a little unpredictable no matter how organized Nikon may be.
I have a MacBookPro on order and I've been checking in on the 600+ page ordering thread on MacRumorsForum. Some of the stories and shipment tracking adventures on there are all over the place with both UPS and Fedex.

trust me I’m fine :-) I’ve been through many Nikon camera launches. It’s fun for me. I enjoy this forum chatting process just days away from launch. I will be happy for any FM’ers who grab some of the first! (especially @dcisive). Waiting like a kid on Christmas Eve has not stopped me from creating a ton of new work the past two months in five different states with my trusty D850 🤓 But yeah, I’m giddy about this one, happy for Nikon, excited for all of us!

Does anyone here remember the Nikon F5 launch? That was an interesting time. Nikon had failed to take the lead in autofocus and Canon had been kicking their butts with the EOS-1/1N and ultrasonic lenses. At the time I was transitioning out of photojournalism and after moving to Portland I took a job at Camera World of Oregon. I had been a diehard Canon user for 15 years, but the buzz around the new F5 was incredible and I was intrigued. The day our regional Nikon rep handed me the demo F5 and I wrapped my hand around it, I knew I was a goner :-)

I’m really happy with my F mount 24-70/2.8E and 70-200/2.8E for the type of work I do and will be trying the Z9 out on those first. But I am intrigued by the new combo of Z 24-120 and 100-400 and when those arrive to me will test and compare to my current setup.

I'm slowly trying to desensitize myself to next week. I'm quite certain that all dealers WILL indeed be receiving their shipments ON the 15th of December which is launch day. What I'm equally certain of is that they will be receiving a very minimal number of bodies and lenses. I'm beginning to realize that my being in this first shipment is like equivalent to winning a lottery. I have a 24-70 f2.8S along with the 100-400S in the same order with a "ship complete" designation because I don't have any Nikon gear. So even IF they were to ship me just the body it would do me NO good.
That said I'm pretty sure over at B&H where I ordered this, that I'll be probably in the 300-500 range of their pre order listing as I didn't jump right on it but rather the following week. It would be beyond a miracle to see Nikon ship them that many bodies first time out let alone the 100-500S. lens. So I'm going to prepare myself to be able to watch the box openings on Youtube of those that were blessed with the first deliveries of the gear. Maybe it's not meant to be for me, but this sure has become quite the event for all of us. I'll just have to break out my R5 and hug it some more.

For anyone who has worked with NPS before, any idea of what to expect in terms of when they let you know it's on the way to the camera shop? Or do they just alert you once the camera store actually has it? I have this worry going local that they'll get it and sell it to someone else. Trying not to be paranoid, it's a great local store, and Id much rather go local than wait all day for Fed Ex and get the "sorry we'll be there tomorrow" as I can't really stay around the house all day.
