Also, there is a lot of news agencies around the world need to get a lot of Z9 for the Olympic in less than 2 months, and NPS need to keep a truck load of Z9 at NPS booth at Olympic...

Not all NPS registrants are really professionals, despite the requirements. I know a few who became NPS members to avail of free sensor cleaning and such perks.

True. One of the members here on FM is a full-time priest :-)

This seems like encouraging news if Kenmore (good dealer BTW, I use to work at Glazers) says they’ll likely fulfill a non-NPS order in first batch.

Agreed, Kenmore Camera were great shipping me a hard-to-find Sony 600f4 GM last year during lockdown. Being outdoors with it was wonderful for work/life balance during extreme COVID last year. While Sony gear is awesome, the ergonomics of the D5/D500/500PF keep me with a foot in the Nikon door, and hoping the Z9 ergonomics and performance matches my expectations (based on the A1).

Look forward to hearing what you think after you’ve been able to use it.

How can that even be possible?
There is a finite production that Nikon has created.
There is an unknown # of NPS orders they will receive.
Nikon says NPS will come first.
So unless Nikon has the capability to up production in the very short term after the NPS orders come in then NPS orders will affect the number that go to the stores in the first round of store shipments.
In the Japan press release they note they are considering increasing production but given the current climate may not be able to as soon as they'd want to. Therefore I doubt they were able to increase and make up the huge amount of NPS orders....Show more →
There is a reserve of open stock. They will ship say 12 cameras out of the 40 a store orders for the first round of deliveries. That store may have 10 NPS bodies going to that location. They don't send 12 and only 2 are available for open stock. There will send 22. So the NPS orders don't impact what the store was originally going to get in that first shipment.
i have heard this numerous times and also from B&H, Cardinal Camera and Service Photo in Baltimore who placed an initial order of 100 Z9 cameras

I think the point Geoff is making is that those 10 NPS bodies in your example are removing 10 bodies from the overall pool of cameras going to non-NPS buyers. They're still 10 bodies that a store somewhere in the world isn't getting to go on the open market. NPS bodies inherently detract from open stock sales due to the finite nature of Nikon's production.
What you describe is what I've seen in the UK before and what I'm hoping is the case for the Z9 launch this time too. I'm non-NPS but I got my order in first in line and I'm still very much hoping that I'll be picking one up later this month. It wouldn't surprise me if the way they treat stock is country dependent. NPS is harder to get into in the UK (you need to demonstrate that half your income is from photography) and I expect there will be fewer NPS orders in comparison to a country where just owning a big lens and a camera body gets you in. In the countries where there are many NPS members perhaps all sales will be going to them.
I imagine we'll know a lot more next week when maybe some countries start handing them over or shops start confirming plans.

Well, that's always the case. That's why when a store orders 100 cameras and they onle get 10 or 15 on the first shipment but there is always some open stock to fill preorders that aren't NPS.
That's cool, I am also 1st in line to get the Z9 from a large retailer in PA. I Prepaid the day before announcement. They ran my card the day before for the rumored price of $5999 and credited back the $500 the next day so I was assured I would be the 1st to get one. The question now is when? I know in the past these stores had the cameras up to a week before the release day.

Yes that’s how it was with the D850 launch, dealers received a combination of NPS allotment as well as some open stock from the first batch onward to begin whittling away on their long preorder lists. I guess at this point we don’t know whether Nikon is sticking with this system for the Z9 - the announcement from Nikon Japan that there will be no open stock available until all NPS is filled makes us wonder if NIKON USA (or other countries) will be changing their usual system this time around.

This is true. The possible saving grace is this was said for Japan and Mainland China in the press release/announcement. So we all will have to wait and see if it effects the US

But if say that store only had 5 NPS orders then now 7 non-NPS get their camera on release day..5 more than your example. Or if that store has 20 NPS orders then Nikon would either still just ship 12 and even 8 NPS keep waiting OR they up that to 20 just to fill NPS on day 1. Both ways sees no cameras delivered to the store's non-NPS orders on day 1. If they did up it to 20 those extra 8 must be taken away from some other store and most likely away from some non-NPS orders. All of these scenarios certainly affect when a non-NPS member at that store is going to receive their camera.

I spoke to CS with B&H yesterday and he mentioned the ONLY thing he knows is that their order for the Z9 bodies was 3000. No idea what's actually coming in in the first round. That's a long ways off of the number you think they ordered. I'm just hoping to be in the 1st wave of shipments
