I read on one of the many blogs/FB pages I follow that the Z 400mm lens will start shipping in the UK on Feb 17th. I am hoping for my USA-NPS Priority delivery soon after.

Thanks for the info. I'm non-NPS so I don't really have a clue how much of a delay that'll result in for me on this one. I ordered direct with Nikon to help speed things along. It won't shock me if I get it pretty quickly because I don't think there will be masses of orders for it and I was very quick off the blocks. Then again they won't be making them that quickly either.

I mainly want it in time for May but I won't be sad if it turns up much sooner.

I am not in any rush either. I need it for sure when American football starts here in August.

I have been on the waiting list since the announcement at the biggest camera store here in Denmark. I have still not heard a thing from them.

At the beginning of the week i took a shot and placed an order directly at Nikons webshop and today i got a shipping confirmation from them, and will be getting the camera this coming tuesday!

I’m in a similar situation. Does Nikon charge you upon ordering or upon shipping the product?

I ordered day of announcement from a large US store and they recently told me they had to cancel and resubmit my order because of an expired charge authorization - supposedly this doesn’t change my position in the queue but I’m highly skeptical. And growing massively impatient. Might be the last time I deal with large stores on back order.

I was a little worried that they would charge on the order, (even though that's against consumer laws here) but placed it anyway.

A day or so later my bank blocked my visa as they had two transactions for 48.000kr (the price of the Z9 here). I called Nikon and the rep. told me the initial "Charge" was a check to see if i was "good for it" and would not be withdrawn. The second was because they just got a shipment of Z9s and was ready to ship my camera.

I eventually, with regrets, had to remove the initial order as my bank informed me that Visa apparently does not allow for more than a 25.000kr charge to webshops, so i had to make a new order with my mastercard. Luckily they still had stock and i got the shipping notification at end of the week (yesterday).

So long story short, they do not charge before shipping, they do a confirmation charge.

I am in disbelief how quickly they shipped after i placed my order. I had the idea that i was going to wait for at least another couple of months, it is the last time i place a preorder like that at a big local store. Next time i will use Nikons own webshop as they apparently do not have the preorders racked up.

Received mine 6 months earlier than expected.

I shot college and high school football last year using the D6 with excellent results.

When the Z9 arrived 3 weeks ago, I put it into revenue service ASAP and the performance for basketball, gymnastics and ice hockey is stunning.

No outdoor sporting events have been covered yet but those will start in a month. The Z9 handled the most difficult indoor lighting I ever face during the year so daytime and night sports under the lights will be a piece of cake for the Z9.

On AF accuracy and frame rate alone, the Z9 will make an incredible American football camera.

I would recommend high capacity and speedier CF cards plus plan on new data storage.

I just purchased another 6 terabyte hard drive in advance for 2022 spring, summer and fall sports coverage.

The camera will blow you away.

Only negative I found with the Z9 is that it makes the D6 obsolete.

Good to see someone put the Z9 into revenue service. It’s a money making machine and will pay itself many times over.

So, can we assume from this comment that whatever jobs you did take couldn't have been done with your prior camera body? That would be consistent with your prior opines on the need for high performance cameras.

What new jobs were you shooting?

I had planned on the D6 being my prime studio, photojournalism and action camera through winter into the beginning of summer since our dealer did not expect their shipments well into 2022...and I was way down on the order list...so I was expecting my Z9 in August...just in time for pre season football.

Hopefully I will have tested all of the AF modes for myself by mid summer and see what works best for my business.

no, you cannot assume that and should not try to assume anything. and what exactly were my opinions on the need for high performance cameras as i have shot with a few in my life?

it was contractual work.

That's good.

It usually takes me a couple of years to fully recover the cost of new gear and the Z9, as good as it is, hasn't created any new business opportunities.

It's faster and focuses better than the D6 but, realistically, I could have shot well into spring and would not have seen one penny more in business than in the past.

The Z9 will be a better performer on action but being a business owner, I am expected to be using the best gear that is affordable, within reason, to give my clients the finest product possible.

The Z9 will offer the best of both worlds as a sports and portrait camera for any studio.

Oh, I see.

You used to comment frequently that there was no need for the high performance mirrorless cameras in your business because you could get the images you needed with less expensive cameras and older DSLRs.

You now claim that the Z9 has paid for itself. But apparently it didn't do that by increasing revenue through enabling you to take work you could not have with your old equipment.

How did it pay for itself from the same business point of view that you previously expressed?

I have always believed that there is a lot of value to be gotten from a better user experience, using better tools whether in personal use or for business purposes. So, I can see it being described as paying for itself from that point of view.

Edit: I see that Lee has a similar perspective on this. Makes sense.

just to say i happen to live in an area that affords, for me, access for various types of work. i do have to hustle to get my work and be available when needed to go to places where i'm wanted.

i lost major work last year

- because you try to equate the two and it just doesn't work that way

- it paid for itself because it was the tool i chose to use for the work performed. that work not being relevant to all of its capabilities. it can serve in a multirole capacity.

- you can have your particular beliefs. i am aware of how to monetize my purchases/investments.

- Lee has his area of expertise and he does it well.

Yes, it does.

No, only it if was additive to income.

Amortizing business equipment is a well established GAP concept in business accounting. I guess we could say you use inconsistent non GAP practices.

I was not commenting on "different", only on "consistent".
