It is planned by Nikon to assure that every dealer of theirs will have "some" Z9 and 100-400S and 24-120S products in their hands. You'll NEVER know how many they will be allocated as no doubt they are going to be in short enough supply that the full orders will NOT be fulfilled. December 15th is indeed THE date that is going to happen.
I am among all too many that are hoping and wishing I might somehow be within the limitations of said delivery quantities at my dealer that would allow ME to get a confirmation email it's on its way to me (and I even paid for "next day" delivery). I'm no betting man but I would nearly bet somehow, I'm going to end up odd man out as it's somewhat unlikely B&H, the one's I ordered from, will get their near full allocation, which I would just guess is more than 500 bodies to be sure.
Even IF Nikon were to have begun their manufacture of the Z9 back in September, according to what they've stated as their production numbers, they would only have at best 12,000 bodies. If you have been watching the news clips about worldwide dealers for Nikon, the Chinese alone would suck that up if there weren't any division of allocation to be accommodating the rest of the world's dealers. So I'll continue to hope but know I'd better have a bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme to take the bite out of the disappointment. So in short while December 15th is the arrival date in stores, it won't mean much for the lion's share of us who aren't in those miniscule numbers of bodies to be delivered. If you pre ordered fairly early on there might be a chance, we'll see it within 90 days of that date.

I have a Z9 countdown on my cell set to December 15th. I pre/pre order mine in march . I highly hope to get my z9 , 100/400 à d ftz2 on December 15th. I think I will get my 100/400 à d ftz2 but not sure about the Z9! I will 🙏🤞

Dec 24th over here but I will be away 19th-25th Dec so boxing day for my Christmas present.
100-400, FTZ ii will arrive Dec 17th but I think I will wait and pick up everything together.

Glad you started this thread. The excitement for me is palpable and we are getting oh so close to the first delivery day. My dealer guesses I will get one from the first allotment but I will believe it when I see it. They are a small dealer and I am supposedly number three on the list. Apparently their Nikon rep is very tightlipped about allotment.
I would be shocked if B&H does not have more than 1000 pre-orders so far.
I do think it’s weird that Nikon has not yet issued the standard apology about not being able to fulfill orders. This is either very good news, are very bad news lol.

Nobody here wants it more than I do. But I'm rather prepared to see virtually ALL of us be disappointed by not being first in line as some of us seem to think. Ironically my experience has been that if you in the first several pre orders of a smaller dealer, you have a MUCH higher chance of getting it quickly than a B&H because while they order a ton of them don't get near their full allocations. A small dealer my order a dozen and get 3 or 4 so like I said the chances are pretty good. I did that once before and that's why I'm saying that.

Admittedly I've been obsessed since I started reading about it over the summer. I pre-ordered at my local shop, was number 8. I then got accepted into the NPS club and the morning of the announcement was able to get my order number from the shop and get it to NPS, and got the automated email saying I was on the list. Then I got my black hat. I check Nikon Rumors multiple times a day. Was waiting with anticipation for the teasers. Now I'm just waiting in anticipation hoping for the best that going local was just fine. My wish was just to get some indication as to what to expect; for instance Canon said no R3s for a while for newer orders. I'd hope that ordering within a half hour of getting the email from Nikon that I could, and being in NPS may mean I'll get lucky.
I suppose on one level it's kind of pathetic, it's not like I can't take photos with my existing gear. But I'm real excited for this one; want to try out the bird autofocus abilities on eagles and owls, and hope to take it on an owl trip in mid January.
My hope is that NPS will send out an email when it's on the way to the dealer - I believe that's what they said they'd do, but not sure if that means I get something on December 14 or 15 or how it works. I do know the local dealer hadn't heard anything yet, but here's hoping that next week I'll get something way cooler than a hat, the Z9 and hopefully the FTZII adaptor with it.

I'll be waiting at the door with my Z hat on when I get the email it's out for delivery! 🤣 Hope it's sooner rather than later but whatever the first lens will be the 500pf.

It's pretty well known that if you are an NPS member you are most likely to be getting it on the 15th. So indeed you folks in particular can and should be pretty stoked. Us poor professional underlings that aren't signed up members have to hope for the crumbs to fall in our fate that we might be able to get what falls through the cracks on delivery

Funny thing... Nikon is supposed to email NPS members when our camera is shipped to the dealership.
Now, I have not seen anyone getting such a notice so that means that (a) Nikon is.just going to release a pile of emails on the 15th telling lucky members that the camera is waiting for them, or (b) no cameras have been sent to dealers yet, but as the 15th draws closer we can expect to start seeing folks reporting that they have gotten the Golden Ticket aka email.
