When I looked into NPS in Canada they said you had to derive 100% of your income from photography and need a current NPS member as a reference on the application form. I didn't pursue it further.
Maybe if I invest further into Nikon (if the Z9 impresses me) I will go through the application and see what happens but I derive 0% of my income from photography.
That said I'm currently a CPS and SPS member....without even the required gear for either program...so you never know...

They don't want to have nps member in canada, you have to meet one millions requirements. In other country you just have to pay for the service. I am a little bit bitter about that lol arbitrage wrote:

Then I would just be content with the A1. And patiently for the Z9 to come. The camera isn’t going anywhere.
I see it too often that someone is all bent out of shape to get the newest gear only to put it on the used market a couple weeks later.

Anyway…I’m done with this silliness. My Z9 is coming and I am happy. Good luck to you.
You keep saying something for no point. You don't want NIKON to be a better NIKON. From the very beginning I said this NPS priority shipment should be done separately (not to the dealer that takes open orders ) so leaving dealers no room to manipulate. Also all non NPS won't feel been cut in front ( like airline's silver member window for priority). Using the word cheater is very inappropriate. The way this is me already called us who placed order before the official day was early cheater. Why do I want my dealer be called cheater as well?
I've said it enough. After I called NIKON USA for nothing in return yesterday, I admit this topic should be stopped. Please don't reply to me due to the silliness. Sorry, just be yourself as happy NPS member and enjoy your new Z9.

No need to list your dealership and their phantom preorder list for product that doesn’t exist. Let me guess, they have a preorder list for 800PF and Z8 also right. Because you know, I heard the Z8 will be the next best thing so better get your name on the list and you’ll get it on day 1.

Nikon USA does direct NPS sales, and if one reads today's post carefully, those emails were to NPS members that bought directly from Nikon. Nikon USA also allows NPS members to designate a retailer, if the NPA member chooses to support his/her LCS. Nikon looses the additional retail margin and the LCS makes that money. You OTOH appose support of our Local Camera Stores, strange position to take. I bet when you are next in one of those stores you will not repeat your position that they, LCS, should be locked out of all NPS sales.
I posted a short comment earlier about this and it bears repeating. You are arguing to make a change that will have zero impact on the timing of when anyone in either group, NPS or NON NPS, receives their Z9.

I may have missed it in the past, but I don't recall any other manufacturer being more open and transparent about the status of a heavily backordered camera.

They are certainly providing a great service to their professional members.
You know, like the ones that are so desperate to have this camera to complete some job where there income depends on it and just figured this out 2 days ago....like those ones.

You mean compared to the Sony shooters with bad GAS who will cancel their orders if they don’t get the camera by the end of January, because they don’t really need the camera at all?

Exactly. Those same non-pro folks who have supported Nikon's financials with easily $30K of gear purchases each. None of them need the camera. None of the pros ordering 2 days ago need it either...what did their D6s just stop working on Jan 3rd? If so, NPS can fix them, loan them etc...that is what NPS is for...not jumping the line 3 months after the fact.

Well, we don’t know for sure that recent NPS member only put their orders in now and getting it tomorrow.
The letter specifically states that if you’re NPS and put in priority order by certain date, expect it to be fulfilled by certain date. There are non NPS members that have received their camera(s). I don’t even think there’s much NPS members.
I called my LCS 3 minutes after they opened after the camera has been announced. He knows me and he knows I’m NPS. Do I need the Z9 for my work? Absolutely not. Do I even need a Z7? Absolutely not. I would still be making photographs with my first camera D70s but you get the point.
The fact is, we all need to be patient. If you really need the Z9, there are ways to get it including the 12k eBay ones.

Man, this is just silly. The NPS program has been in place for a long time and has always worked this way. But now it is a big problem because you did not get your camera in the first few weeks.
The only thing that has changed is Nikon is being more transparent. The reason they are doing so is this is the first time in a very long time when they were unable to fulfill NPS orders in the first shipment. Therefore, they want NPS members to know what is going on as it is out of the norm.
But, of course some people will punish them for being more transparent. I guess they should have went dark and then you would have nothing to complain about.

I'm entitled to my opinion. You know what it is. I know what yours is. We will agree to disagree.
As I said, I have no issues with how Nikon is supporting their NPS members. They are doing an excellent job at that.
I think orders placed for a number of weeks after orders were open are fair to prioritize above all others.
I don't think Nikon is doing a good service towards their other non-NPS customers.
Everything should have a balance and this doesn't.
But Nikon knows what they are doing, they have their internal sales numbers and they will make the best decision possible in their opinion. I just don't agree with their decision.

Just curious and I mean no disrespect. What are you looking for on the Z9 that you can’t with your A1 and 600GM? From what I’ve seen, those BIF images you posted are ones I can only dream of taking.
Are you really going to keep both? Are you really going to dump your Sony? What’s the big rush other than your internet status of having both A1 and Z9.

I need a high performing MILC to shoot some Nikon lenses I want to shoot (500PF for now and some roadmap lenses down the line). That is about it. I will be keeping both. I will not be dumping Sony at all. The only time I would consider dumping Sony is when the Nikon 400/2.8 S is readily available and only if it is as light as my 600GM.
I don't think anyone even knows who I am on the internet so I doubt owning a Z9 will improve my status much

I know some NPS members that make almost all of their income from sources unrelated to photography. I placed a deposit for a Z9 with a local camera store on April 1st (no joke), and I am still waiting for my Z9 while they fulfill orders from NPS members... It's not the fault of the local camera store (which is a great store, btw). I have no problem with the fact that professional photographers get to cut in line. It is all of the other NPS members that bother me. This is not a recent phenomenon.
The criteria for NPS isn't the same as it used to be.

I go back and forth a bit on that, but understand why Nikon does it the way they do.
They want to sell to NPS folks through their dealer network, to not step on the toes of the network, but to have some type of graduated roll out where you say have NPS orders that are in the first week go ahead of any non-NPS day one orders, but then day one orders go, or some other system wherein early non-NPS customers get theirs ahead of the NPS stragglers would be difficult from a practicality standpoint, because they would need visibility in to the ordering systems not just of B&H and Adorama and a few of the big guns, but literally every single store.
I suppose they could go to a system where it's on the store to notify NPS of the order, and NPS members just have to notify them, but you know orders would fall through the cracks if they did that. Even if they went to a system like Easyshot wants, where NPS members order directly from Nikon, they STILL have to trust the dealers to give them honest numbers for orders on day one, first week, etc. It would be really hard to administer such a system without them having one massive ordering system for the dealers, and Nikon doesn't do software all that well.
I think the other reason that they do this is because some pros, knowing that they will get priority, might actually wait for the demo tour to actually go and try out the camera before putting in their order. Which they wouldn't be able to do if they didn't get it right away.

I just checked out your 29 thread win images, fantastic! You've set a high bar with the A1 and I hope the Z9 comes close to performing as well for you.
