Has anyone gotten their order from B&H or Adorama yet? Just curious.
I have received two both non NPS, one from B&H, ordered within seconds of them opening preorders, Best Buy as well ordered day one within like 5 minutes of them going live.

Just called the store that I ordered the Z9 from.
The store owner told me that NPS separated the Z9 orders into two groups, one December 30th (or maybe he said late December... not sure) and the second group is in mid-January.
He told me "You are in the second group." He said "Ok? So you will be hearing from us shortly."

...As long as NIKON ships NPS orders to dealers, you can't convince all non NPS customers waiting in line to believe that their position are not manipulated. How do you know if your dealer told you by saying sorry we can't fill your oder yet because there are 3 NPS orders in front of you while there were actually only 2? Your explanation works only with face value of dealer's honesty...
So, what would stop them from doing the exact same thing to you if there were no NPS customers ahead of you? NPS orders or not I can just as easily tell you that we didn't get quite enough delivered to get one to you.

Nikon has a very hot product being introduced in difficult times.
Nikon has an NPS program that includes benefits. This program has fees that people have paid to receive these benefits. That includes priority access to high demand products. This is a well known benefit of the program. Nothing new or special about the Z9 release in this regard.
Nikon has a network of dealers. The majority of these dealers a smaller local photography shops. They provide personalized and specialized services as their unique point of difference from the big box and mail order companies. Nikon recognizes and respects the value that these stores provide to Nikon's end users, the professional and recreational photographers. Nikon is supporting these stores by using them in the NPS channel. This is not without cost and effort to both Nikon these stores. One of my local store owners told me that Nikon is allowing only a reduced margin on the Z9. He mentioned 10%, but I have no knowledge how this fits in, or if it is a valid number. The important thing is that the stores are participating in Nikon's effort to bring exceptionally competitive value to their customers.
If you are a customer of the store, or of Nikon you are benefiting from this value. If you don't want to be just a number, establish a relationship with a small business camera store. This relationship will benefit you when you need/want some service or product. Establish a relationship with Nikon through NPS. Establish a relationship with your store by being a good customer. Otherwise you will be just a number ordering from multiple stores in hopes of hitting the jackpot.
From what I am seeing, Nikon is doing an exceptional job with the Z9 release in difficult times. In a general case (not buyer or store specific), they are being open about to who (by category), and when they are shipping cameras. As I think we can all recognize forecasting and production are not easy to do in today's unusual circumstances. There are lots of complaints based on unrealistic expectations, and misinformation. Step back and have a look at how well it is actually going in the context of the World situation rather than through the lenses of personal wants and impatience.
I will admit that it is easier for me to remain dispassionate in this discussion because I am not interested in a camera with the Z9 form factor. ...Show more →

Good for you. Two Z9s. That is cool. Quite a nice backup! Post a pick of those bad boys next to each other!

Thanks for the clarification. I have edited my post to reflect that.

Nobody has placed an NPS order for the 800mm. It is not available yet. So maybe your issue is with your dealer, not Nikon.
That being said, if your dealer is honest (no reason they should not be) you will get the first open stock lens.
Everyone seems not really care, are you all NPS? If not, say something.
This is exactly what will strike me when the 800pf became available. I am at the dealer's top 1 list but when NIKON begin taking NPS orders, will I get my 800pf first, or just to be pushed down for months due to NPS priority. How an honest dealer should be handling this?
Anyone here working in NIKON dealership, or those who claim knowing the NPS thing for decades, give me some idea. Why or why not.
I did call NIKON USA today, the receptionist couldn't help at all.

I have explained this to you numerous times. What part of the process do you not understand? At this point I really don’t care about what parts you don’t like.
Nikon will fulfill NPS orders before your order. If NPS orders are less than the total number of lenses available, you will get your lens right away. This was the case with the recent 100-400 release. If NPS orders are greater than the total number of lenses available, you will have to wait. This was the case with the Z9 release.
That being said, Nikon will sometimes send dealers ONE “non-NPS” item in the first allocation, even if there are not enough for all NPS members in the first allocation. So if you are the first non-NPS on your dealer’s list, you COULD get it right away even if the NPS orders are greater than the total number of lenses available.
It has nothing to do with dishonesty or anybody trying to trick you. Don’t be paranoid.
P.S. I really do not even understand why your dealer took your order for the 800 PF. All there has been is a development announcement. It could be years before the lens is available and we do not know the price. You do realize your dealer is not able to place the order with Nikon yet, right?

A dealer does get a limited stock of non-NPS pre orders.

This forum thread is about the Z9 and it's availability, and is not about the availability of the Z 800 PF lens, nor a discussion about NPS. You have inserted your interest and demands in the middle of a thread and derailed the conversation instead of starting a thread where you could get input from those interested in what interests you. The number of respondents would vary depending on those even interested in your thread.
There is a mixture of members here that are NPS and those that are not NPS, just like the mixture of people here that use different camera platforms, different photo interests, etc.
This is not a forum that is monitored by Nikon nor responded to by Nikon. The internet is full of rumors, assumptions, and false claims. In order to bypass those issues, you should do some research of your own if you really want factual information. I was aware of the NPS program, but did research via Nikon sites to learn more about it.
The Nikon Z 800 PF lens *has not* been announced as being available for pre-order, but you found a dealer that is essentially taking a pre pre-order. Nikon will *most likely* prioritize NPS orders when the lens becomes available for pre-ordering similar to what is being done currently for the Z9 and the Z 100-400mm and Z 24-120 lens. This assumption is based on what I have seen done by Nikon most recently, but like life could easily change.
In your case, depending on Nikon's and the dealer's actions in the future, you would *most likely* be the first non-NPS person to get the lens available from that dealer that you pre pre-ordered from. No one has a crystal ball as to the number of NPS orders that the dealer will have that Nikon (*not the dealer*) will prioritize and send to the dealer with the NPS member's name on it, nor know the availability of numbers of the lens, or production rate, or what the world will be experiencing at that point in the future.

I care now. I think it is because you called them. That’s a start. Before, I did not see it from your perspective. Now I do.
As stated, it is too early for the 800pf.
Westdads put a lot of thought and time into his response to you. I read it. I would seriously consider his advice.
And now I see that gdsf2 explained it to you repeatedly.

Thanks for your reply. I know I should still be pushed down most likely due to NPS priority. I preordered z9 on oct 28 from Adorama about 3 hrs after the announcement. I don't think mid Jan will have one for me. 800PF is the same thing ( but will strike me more) in the future as Z9 is happening now. So be it!

Two posts on DPR in the last 15mins saying their Z9 just went to preparing for shipping and credit card charged. No mention of which store or NPS status. I asked them that and await their replies.

Now the other guy replied and also Nikon direct and NPS. Looks like Nikon has another batch and is working to get all the NPS orders finished as they promised by mid-Jan. We shall see if more go to the stores this week or if that will come next week.
