p.26 #1 · Z9: Countdown to air shipment and release.......
Just called the store I'm on a list for out of curiosity. They haven't gotten any non-NPS camera's in and don't expect any before the new year. I'm not in a big rush, so it's no problem.
p.26 #2 · Z9: Countdown to air shipment and release.......
There are some comments on a recent NR post saying that Z9s started hitting some shops in the UK this morning. That gives me little glimmer of hope that mine might rock up tomorrow for me to collect. Otherwise at least it should be on its way to them and turn up early next week.
p.26 #3 · Z9: Countdown to air shipment and release.......
Well I'm sorry to report I don't have good news. I spoke to a rather competent and very nice customer service rep at B&H this morning inquiring about the status of the arrival of the Z9's and Lenses expected in their shipment of December 24th.
She was very forthcoming in explaining to me in depth how their system worked. The CS department is only given information based on the status that is placed on their computers in front of them at any given time. When a manufacturer such as Nikon, updates their system as to the status of a given shipment, it reflects on their computers when they look up an order.
She had my order in front of her and said that their system was updated last night to reflect that Nikon informed them there would be NO shipment as originally scheduled for the 24th as we all hoped. Nikon has moved their scheduled shipment date to the 30th of December. That's next Thursday as we all know. She was very clear then when a shipment comes into their warehouse, the unloading and logging into the system process takes 1-3 days.
That said we all know that if that's the case once again, there will likely be NOTHING going on shipment wise till Monday the 3rd of January as at best they might get it in on Thursday the 30th and maybe get a few things logged in before they shut down for the Sabbath early on Friday the 31st.
All that and then we discussed how I would know for certain if I was going to be one of the blessed ones to get my full order (which is a Z9, 100-400S and 24-70S). She acknowledged that the 100-400S is a limited type of item as is the Z9. I brought up the subject of the statements that some have received from the CS department there, that there were 4000 Z9's coming in to completely take care of the backorders for ALL who pre ordered. Here's where it gets really interesting. And believe me she was rather honest about how they work. She said that their system NEVER indicated that whatsoever. She said interestingly enough they do however have Sales Department Notes that are on the side of their screen which she said she rarely pays much attention to as it does NOT reflect what the buyer's department is dealing with. They do not pass that information on so the Sales Notes mean basically NOTHING.
IF in fact the statements made by other CS reps had to do with that bombastic statement all backorders will be filled no problem is up for grabs, just that it's once again NOT reality. So she said she is going to place a note in her system to check for me on the status next Thursday-Friday to see if I'm on the "List" of those that would receive my order and it will get fulfilled. She said it is completely possible that once again December 30th may arrive with yet another update to their system from Nikon that there is yet another delay, she could not guarantee that would not happen. But she will keep me updated at least.
So what do we get out of all this? To me it's very unlikely that they are going to get the kind of numbers of bodies and lenses to fulfill anywhere near ALL of the backorders as Nikon already intimated that their initial deliveries would be meager indeed. So any thoughts of WHEN any one of us will get our packages (aside from being an NPS member) is completely up for grabs and should in NO way be up for speculation. Perhaps Nikon's statement that NPS members would have their orders cleared by January was truth indeed. Please don't get upset with me as I'm just passing on yet another complete assessment from today's update from B&H's customer services department reps. I feel this gal was very sincere and had a good grip on how things work there. Like she said, the ONLY way you'll know for certain if you're getting it is if A: your Synchrony Bank notification comes to your email it's been charged, and B: you get the Email with the tracking information from B&H. Guess I'll put this on the back burner as It doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon.

Will you call them tomorrow? Dec 24th was the official date from Nikon, so I am sure the situation will change tomorrow.
You have so far conveyed so many versions of the absolute truth that I am confused.

of course NOT! If I don't hear back from her next week at this time, I won't call either. I will wait till Tuesday the 4th before I call again and almost certainly will get confirmation, I'm NOT in that "to ship" list. That's what I'm expecting at this point. It will be interesting how this all goes down in the meantime in regard to their follow up. I'll keep you posted. Please don't beat me up I'm just passing on information, NOT claiming it's "The Truth". Just my interaction with B&H and how they are handling this. If you'd prefer, I just shut up I'm ok with that just let me know.

NOOO .. please don't stop calling them .. this is the most fun we've had around here (Nikon forum) for months.
Even though some of us joke around, every non-NPS who has a pre-order is in the same boat as you.

Well my camera shop "allegedly" has the Z9 now but is not allowed to sell any or actually do anything with them until tomorrow 12/24 this was told to me by a friend who ordered from same shop. I guess Nikon has this written in stone, who knows.
Some folks seem to have been notified already by B&H of their credit cards being charged already an shipping being imminent. Maybe they are large enough to not care what Nikon says?
p.26 #11 · Z9: Countdown to air shipment and release.......
Yeah I know. I suppose any extensive delay will just allow me to have more $$ in my savings account. What the heck. My R5 will keep me alive till then.

Not to change the topic but can someone talk some sense into me?
I have a Z7II + all Z mount lenses I want at this moment (14-30, 24-70, 70-200, 40/50/85, TC14, might add 200-600 when it's out). I photograph everything around me (mostly just local landscapes / road trips / hikes / dog photos / nature in the last 2 pandemic years).
I'm super happy with all the lenses, quality of the raw files, handling of the body. The only thing that's lacking is AF-C and action shots (yes, like a running dog, don't roll your eyes). I can still pull it off but not with as many keepers as I'd like to get.
Photography is purely a hobby. I'm not a pro and I don't want to be a pro (don't like dealing with customer bs). I'll sometimes 2nd shoot a wedding but photography will never be a major income source for me.
Do I get a Z9 which I can technically afford or do I wait for the trickle down effect hoping that major AF improvements will come to normal size bodies in the next 12 months? Is there a chance of a D700 moment? I'm not necessarily psyched about lugging a body with integrated grip around but the AF features alone look like a game changer to me.

I just picked up my Z9 and FTZII from my local dealer. I am not NPS and was number 2 on their pre-order list. The store received 9 cameras, of which 3 were designated for NPS members. They have at least 12 NPS orders, so the allocation is much different than what most people were expecting. I got to do a quick set-up and shot a few shots of my dog running before the battery died. It is on the charger now.

Just picked up my Z9 as well at my local dealer. I was number 3 on the non-NPS list--they had about 92 preorders on that list and got 4 cameras. They had about 12 NPS preorders and got 3 NPS-allocated cameras. I guess one could call 4 cameras for 92 preorders "symbolic" as some reports had described how small the first shipment would be. We'll see how fast they get another shipment and how large it will be.

Unless it’s coming out of Nikon, don’t believe anything from anyone’s mouth. And don’t assume.

Looks like they did indeed ship them around the world. Just not that many as we originally thought. The folks that pre ordered from B&H the first day or hours when they began taking the orders are trickling in notifications of shipment to them. I guess I'm in for a long haul as my order went in on Nov 4th days after the beginning. It could be the original rep I spoke with there saying they were told I should expect it by summer may not be far off.
