I just received this email from my dealer (District Camera):
Hello !
If you are receiving this email, you are on our order list for the Nikon Z9 as a Nikon NPS member. Nikon has begun shipments of this highly anticipated camera and District Camera has begun to receive
shipments this week. Based on the popularity, they were not able to allocate cameras on the first shipment to All NPS members (first time i can remember in recent history !).
We are told they drew a line in the sand somewhere and earlier orders will get cameras in Late December and later orders will be sometime in mid January.
If you are getting this email, you are confirmed to be on the Mid January release. We are working hard to get as many cameras as soon as possible and we greatly appreciate your business.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

I ordered on 10/29 (day after release). So, only new news, for me, is second day is late! All good. Well worth another short wait.

District Camera is my favorite store. They have always done their best to fulfill my orders. I’m sure you will be satisfied. I hope you get your Z9 soon. I already have my A1, so no worries about me getting to the head of the line 😂.

My camera shop has mine but they are 650 miles away! Doh!
Actually they are shipping it overnight on Monday so I'll have it for Tuesday to charge and get ready to head out with it the next morning which is my birthday! I have the two new lenses and FTZII already but the first lens that's going on it will be the 500pf.

Did your shop say something about FTZII being discounted with the Z9? I was pleasantly surprised to be a $50 discount on the FTZII when I picked mine up with the Z9.

yeah when I was at the local Nikon dog and pony show they said $50 discount on the FTZ II when purchased with the Z9. I mentioned it in one of the many threads but nobody else had heard that at the time so just assumed it was a one-off.

Unreal. I ordered at the same time on B&H - dropped into my cart two seconds after it went live and slammed through the order process as fast as that - 30 seconds or so. But my Z9 is still backordered.
There must have been on hell of a bitstorm of orders during that first minute. Congratulations on landing early.

I will look forward to seeing your images with the 500PF. That is the lens that is going on my Z9 when it arrives! My Z9 will probably be along in the next week or so... but it won't be long now.

If the CS rep at B&H I spoke to this morning was accurate (as some have reported some rather absurd stuff some reps told them) they are now stuck without more product, and while they were previously supposed to see another trickle show up on the 30th, he pulled a report that stated they are now not expecting more product in till "maybe" mid to end of January due to ships not docking yet and the unloading and shipping to Nikon USA for distribution is all slowed down now. So here we go once again. The rumor/story that was circulated that they were getting 4000 bodies in is about as BS as it gets. Since I didn't order nearly as quickly as you (Nov 4th) they are telling me I'd be fortunate to see it prior to the summer. So don't feel so bad you just might see it sometime in February.

If you call them again maybe you'll get another story to hinge your hopes on, or maybe some CS rep is hiding a Z9 under their desk. They probably know your caller ID by now.
If you're late to order - you'll need to wait. That's the reality of the pandemic / supply chain mess. Nikon can churn out ~3500 bodies a month for the whole world to buy. Even if they manage to scale the production up (unlikely - since other manufacturers halted orders on some camera models due to semiconductor shortage) - you'll need to wait anyway.

Talked to my local shop, they got three Z9 in, all NPS. Knowing that I am (supposedly) #1 in line for non-NPS they said they thought mine would show up sometime in January. Given all the pre-orders, that would be nice.

Oh I feel about 90% sure that every word out of the customer service rep's mouths at this point is pure unadulterated BS. We all know everyone that's called got a different answer. Everything from "you'll see yours next June", "There are 4000 coming in to take care of EVERY backorder next week", "You'll be getting yours by mid-January". " We only got a few in and have NO idea when more will arrive, likely not until late January and it will only be a few". They are running out of creative lies. They and we would be much further ahead if they'd just say, "We have NO idea". Which quite possibly is more accurate than their other diatribe. My card with them will run out in mid-April so if it doesn't happen before that I'm done. I'm not interested in shelling it all out right up front so don't lecture me on that one.

Picked up my Z9 today so a little Christmas present for myself. It was released yesterday but I was away until last night.
Here only the two main Nikon dealers in the whole country got Z9 during the first shipments, about 20 each.

Thanks Steve, unfortunately the camera arrived on the day I returned from my bird trip.
It was a bummer as I had a great time on a 6 days trip to the northern part of Thailand where now we have plenty of
winter migratory birds from the Himalayas, Russia, China and elsewhere. Will try to do some short one day trip next week
to try out the camera.
I'm not interested in shelling it all out right up front so don't lecture me on that one.
