I've got news for him. He doesn't work for Nikon, nor does he know the people responsible for arrangements of the shipments of product to the dealer network. Those are the ONLY people who truly know the FACTS! So, I'll go with what I said that I'm fairly confident NPS folks will be handled by January and then the flow to the rest of us will begin. We can't say at what rate until we start seeing documented evidence of deliveries occurring to large and small dealer networks. I'd guess probably by mid-February we'll have a good idea what to expect regarding our ability to land a Z9 and some of those new lenses. ...Show more →
This is really rather funny. We have all been telling you this for weeks while you insisted you were going to be in the first batch. Now, after coming down from your high, and recovering from your panic attack, you are repeating back what we told you like you are wise. Very funny.
I have CONSISTENTLY stated we know nothing. If you now understand it, my work is done.

Till they get their first shipment, and find out how many units Nikon sent them, I don't think they can give a good answer.
If you're looking to buy one, please place your order asap but till Dec 24th at least, everything about z9 delivery
that you will read about, is pure speculation and "I was told by a friend .." type of info.

Now that would be the biggest mistake you could possibly make. You'd be number 3072 pre order on their list when they will likely get maybe 20 at a time. You might see it sometime in 2023 if you're lucky.
Historically, you had to be NPD to obtain the top pro bodies and exotic glass. From a Nikon page it says that NID dealers can’t obtain all items:
"Product purchase limitations include all Nikon Imaging products categorized as Nikon Professional Dealer Products (PDP). These products include, but are not limited to, Nikon professional digital SLR cameras, NIKKOR Super-Telephoto lenses and select system accessories dedicated to Professional Dealer Products.”
A member on DPR was told a couple days ago by his local dealer who had taken preorders that Nikon would not be allowing them to carry the Z9. Surely they are NID. It would be wise to preorder only from NPD stores.

FYI, I used to be a store manager for a large US chain company. We never tell customers the quantities of any of our shipments and packages. Is considered a LP issue. Yes, we know what is in our shipment because the manifest is in our database. Hot items would usually have limited quantities. You will get your Z9 when it is ready, ok...

Yup as mentioned doing that will get you one in about 2023, or by the time the z10 is announced.
An anecdote…. When the D850 was the thing, I put my name on the list w B&H. They had no ETA. I also put my name on the list with Roberts camera. I got it in three days. I left my name on B&H’s list just to see how long it would be. 2 months later still nothing. I think after that I took my name off because I was done w that little experiment!
B&H isn’t the only place that sells gear, but people flock to them like they are.

Oh, I have zero plans to do it. Irony doesn't transfer well over the keyboard. It's been common knowledge since D850 / 500PF (probably even earlier than that) that B&H or any other large retailers is not the place to get any hot ticket items quickly.
Calling customer service reps to inquire is just a waste of everyone's time as well - they either will tell you stories to keep preorder in or just don't have the information you're hoping to get.

I wondered if a few people failed to get your humor on that post :-)

Still not buying a Z9 but picking up a 24-120 and 100-400 on Monday to give them a thorough test on the Z7ii. If I end up not liking them, check the B&S board in a few weeks

It pays to call around!
Oh I thought your Z7II was already up on the B&S board?

I just went to a Canon demo to check out the R3 and 28-70 f/2. I wore my Nikon Z cap. 😁 One of the Canon guys there goes "Sure you can check out the R3, if you take off that cap". I laughed and said I got it at a z9 demo. And he goes, "Yes, Nikon is good at making caps". 😁
The R3 does look sexy, feels super good to hold, the EVF seemed like a definite step up from the z9, I didn't feel the resolution dropping during focus, and it is fast to focus and burst. The 28-70 is a humongous beast, and the external zooming 70-200 looks like a hobbit.

How’s that texture on the R3? Looks similar to those dbrand skins that feel super slick in hand.

I didn’t realize that the Z9 dropped resolution during focus. what was your opinion on lag/OVF-like-ness?
