Still not buying a Z9 but picking up a 24-120 and 100-400 on Monday to give them a thorough test on the Z7ii. If I end up not liking them, check the B&S board in a few weeks

R3 texture did seem slicker than z9, but quite good in the hands. It has a slight texture but the grip seemed really good. Weight was better than z9, which immediately felt solid and heavy. R3 felt solid but not too heavy.
z9 does not drop resolution when focusing, but the R3 has 5.67 million dot EVF with 120 fps refresh. I felt this was a better EVF than the z9. But, I only remember the z9 EVF from several weeks ago, and that demo was at night while today's was during the day. So, please don't take it as fact .. just what my brain felt. As for lag, I did not feel any lag on the z9 nor R3. Both felt natural.

I do, one of my favorite lenses ever. The Nikon has 3 major advantages though…10 degree shorter zoom throw, and no lens creep. The Sony will creep even with the zoom tightness ring maxed out. Third advantage, but one I need to test, is the MFD on the Nikon is 20% closer than the Sony. I use the Sony for pseudo macro more than I use my actual macro lens because the results are so pleasing.

I use the 80-400 AFS for same. Just screw in a Canon 500D into the threads. I've owed two micro Nikkor and this is just as sharp.... at least.
Dragonfly transforming to adult. In pre-dawn, it was still underwater. This image taken mid-morning. The white threads lined the nymph's trachea (breathing)
And the 80-400 AFS keeps up with the fastest incoming dog. I was surprised the D850 acquired focus on all of the 12 frames. The Z9 will be much better though. My 850 most often has trouble with fast, midsized birds.

I'm so sorry for respecting the opinions of multiple paid professional photographers, on top of Steve Perry. I don't really care what my source of information is as long as I like their images and respect their work ethic. arbitrage wrote:
Let me know when Steve Perry gets his. Otherwise just more paid opinions.

I know enough about the Z9 now, that I'm quite sure I'll be very happy with it, for a long time,
regardless of any further reviews.
I feel bad for my trusty D850. I'm sorry my friend.

Same here. I would just need to learn how to use it best for what I use the camera for. bs kite wrote:

I love my D850 too, but it will still be with me for a long time. I plan on keeping it as my back up camera, and when travelling for landscapes, will likely continue to use that as I will use the Z9 for my wildlife shots. The cost of new Z glass seems just too high when the F glass is wonderful, and I have filter sets fitting those lens sizes.

I'm pretty sure I'm keeping my D850, no idea about my D4 and D810, though the D810 just gives me an NPS buffer as of now. Feels like the last DSLR I'll ever buy will be a D5 when those crater in price. I just like Z mount enough to want it to take off basically, I really like what Nikon did with it. padrepaul wrote:

I was so busy with a two month assignment on some remote islands in the North Atlantic the past few months I did not really even pay much attention to what the Z9 is all about.
In having a closer look at what it offers, I ought to just go ahead and get one for the jobs that would benefit from it.
Order in, good ol’ NPS, taking care of me for about 30 years now…

Sounds interesting! Have any of your photos from your assignment been published yet?

It started out as a fine art commission that took about two weeks but then I realized the timing was during a renovation of our house so I stayed another 6 weeks and built up a good sized body of work.
It was all shot on 240 rolls of medium format black and white film, hence the reason the Z9 announcement did not get much attention from me for awhile….I was in another world. AlanD wrote:

Also, there are only 87 NPD in the US.
I believe you’re correct. SE Camera did say they were applying to be able to receive the Z9 in the future. Likely applying to be a NPD.
