Fred wants to try this also. So after my tests I’ll probably send it over to him to play with.
Looking forward to your findings, especially rendering compared to the FE 85 f/1.8.
Still thinking about the 24 GM + FE 85 f/1.8 as a great light travel power duo, and I think the Samyang would be a bit too heavy for that purpose, but we shall see. AF could be an issue too.

lenstation is only $60 at adorama, and firmware makes all the difference. Quickness is the biggest issue with my SY so far, not a big deal as these arent typical sporting lenses.
I've been having focus accuracy issues on my 2nd hand 35mm f1.4. I mostly heard about the firmware fixing speed and AF-C but if I'm understanding you guys, it may fix accuracy as well?
But do I read that correct that you've only tried it on a NEX-5? So much has changed with Sony focusing algorithms that I don't think you can draw much conclusions from that...

sorry, cant help. Used the 35 1.4 only on R2, R3, and A9, dont think I've ever shot the lens @ infinity. I bought it with a newer firmware to start with, didnt have accuracy issues, however it's not a very quick lens.
mmm so it seems the expected April 5th showing on B&H is now gone and no ETA. I was hoping to get my hands on one for a comparison review before leaving to Puerto Rico. :/
Did anyone get a shipping from BH. Usually that means they came in and whatever stock there was is now shipped to buyers or worse it’s delayed. I ordered from Adorama and nothing yet. Just checked my paypal and they have not taken my money yet either.

Yes, but in theory contrast detection should be the slowest and most accurate focus mode, pulsing back and forth and looking for contrast increases.
I'm going to switch to FF at some point, the NEX-5 is only for testing the used lenses before I find a good deal on a body. That's why I'm seeing if this is a body problem, a my specific lens problem, or general lens problem. I actually own 2 other Samyangs that don't have this issue

Understandable, its a portrait lens. Not many seems to have tested further focus. With more testing, my lens has issues even at like 30 meters away with apertures smaller than f3.5
One other person says they had the same issue on an A7R III and firmware updates didn't help.
Samyang has said they want to improve their focusing, and they've seemed to hit a great value / sharpness / rendering proposition, so here's hoping the 85mm is great.
My order from B&H still shows as back ordered. If it doesn't ship tomorrow I will probably cancel and reorder later as I will be out of town for a while.

Looking at it they have a 15 restocking fee
Interesting, missed that. Personally I don't return things unless they're really defective, I don't like the buy & try stuff. But I know some folks like to cherry pick a lens etc. Also get 5% back since I have an Amazon card.
Still they're at 100% feedback with 2500 transactions so can't see them really ripping people off...

Early review shows disappointing AF speed (even slower than the GM 85...). Overall, it's softer than the GM 85 (more so around the edges)
Just saw this too, the AF speed is killing it.
I think I will get a used EF 85 1.8 for now and pair with MC11 (kinda of run low now )
