Those in the EU, wait for a couple Amazon.de reviews and the price will drop down dramatically. This has been the case with their 35mm and 24mm lenses.
Just one month from launch, the price gets slashed!
Do not hurry!
If you meant their pancakes, then yes, they didn't offer anything over the Sony version except for cheaper price for a cheaper build. If this Samyang IQ is close enough to the GM, I don't see why Samyang would slash their price to move the inventory. It will sell like hotcakes.
I think it’s certainly worth trying but I’m not selling something for it. Maybe a outright buy and keep or return. I just not had great luck with Samyang. You read these threads around here and folks experiences with them are all over the map. I believe that’s real too. Got to make sure you get a good copy it seems.
Sample images of the bokeh look good like thier 50. Very small to and weather sealing as well. Looks like this might be a winner minus copy variation of course
Not complaining... but got their 35/1.4 for about $400 US when they ran a 20% cash back w/ Amazon Prime card in December. It asks $598 now, and I think it was $699 at launch. They are very aggressive with discounting until sales volume is where they want it (I assume). It's smart from a revenue perspective, but also means I won't buy until it gets an initial mark down.

build quality not on the level of sony, tamron, or sigma. The metal is cheap feeling and there's a gap between the focus rings. Things can certainly change moving forward, but they havent built that reputation yet. They are extremely quick to discount, and I'll be waiting. In a perfect world, I'de rather not replace my current 85, and would love someone make a smaller competitor to the 135GM, sorta like this lens. under 600g, f2 is fine, iq of the older 135 f2 is fine as well. I dont need the last 5% in image quality with 30% gain in size.

the 50mm f1.4 got down to 399 with occasional discounts on top of that. Missed out on that bargain, will be scouting for the 85 bargain.

Nor the doubling in price.
I'm seeing the Batis 135 starting to approach $1,000 which is getting reasonable. Talk about a tumble from its introductory price...actually nice to see as it was way to high for a slow 135.
Both actually. The 35 was nice too. Actually a hair sharper than the Sony in the center, but not close wide open towards the borders. Stopped down the gap closed in both directions.
24 had a weird smearing evident in the bokeh, very unattractive at f/2.8 and even plane of focus wasn't ideal. At f/4 it cleaned up a lot though and was still a convenient little lens. Good landscape lens, but not if you wanted to use your 24mm wide open.

Really not much bigger than the 85 1.8
Yes, only 2/3" longer. I don't expect AF to be as fast as the FE 85/1.8 but could be faster and quieter than the 85/1.4 GM's.
It's hard to judge rendering from the initial samples but it seems better corrected for SA.
