From Samyang:
"The AF 85mm F1.4 FE is inspired by the optical vision of the MF 85mm F1.4 AS IF UMC, which has been loved for its beautiful out-of-focus images since its launch in 2008: however, this new lens develops the original’s existing strengths with a much more advanced optical design, newly optimized for mirrorless cameras. This lens of great value and charm with high resolution encapsulates Samyang’s universally respected 40-year optical technology in your photographs."
SAR suggests that it may be a new design because of apparent increased width and height of the lens. If it is just a DSLR adaptation though, I wouldn't be too confident either.
If it's the same optical design as the current Rokinon/Samyang 85/1.4 manual focus e-mount, it should be very good. The MF version is sharp (center) at 1.4 with beautiful creamy bokeh. An AF version of the same lens would be fantastic!
I just bought the Sony 85 1.8 so will see. Problem I had with the 35 1.4 was focusing accuracy just was not consistent and the 50 I had was a bad copy. So I’m skeptical
I’m also out of money . Just bought the 7Artisian 28mm 1.4 10 minutes ago. Need to try it been very curious plus I can use a MF 28. I’m taking one for the team. I’m a sick person
I'm keeping an eye on this. I rather like my 35/1.4, and I have the 85mm 1.4 MF version. An AF with similar performance for a sensible price is appealing.

Same, I'm not looking for it to match the 85GM but if it can compete with the 85/1.8 and a half stop wider it would be an attractive option.
That and no more, "buy the lens now buy, the dock and fix it" issues.
if based on the old optics, it wont hang...... HOWEVER, the imagery from the older 85 f1.4 was blissful. The bokeh is so creamy and nice, sharpness was good enough, no worse than the 85L, and arguably better bokeh.
that said, I'll likely pass, the FE 85 1.8 is very fast where samyangs are way below average in AF speed. SY would have to be real small and inexpensive to make it worthwhile for me. I know I'de have to give up AF speed already, and if it's much heavier, then it starts to be annoying on two levels.

I'm not a fan of poor AF implementation at release either, but the fact that they have been consistently updating and improving their lenses' performance is something I appreciate.

I have their Af 35, and it's excellent. I had the MF 85 F1.4, and it was nice. Hoping the AF version is at least as good.
Still holding out hope for a well-build AF 135 F2. IMO, should be a no-brainer given it's outstanding optical performance. Ah well...
Keep in mind you can’t always (usually cannot) simply add a motor to the focusing group of a manual lens. They’re frequently a lot larger, which makes for slower focus if you do. Chances of the same schemes as their 85 and 135 are pretty slim.
