I would not use the R for cityscapes due to the aliasing.

Almost too much resolution for portraits, especially showing skin / makeup flaws.
Of course down-sampling is easy. It should be fabulous for environmental
portraiture where the person may occupy a smaller part of the frame.

I'll definitely have to consider your advice. It will be easy to switch my order. Thanks for the info. Anyone know if the portrait shot Snapsy posted earlier was with the 5Ds or DsR? That was impressive.

Edit: Portrait shot with 5Ds

I admit i was never in the market to buy this, so i can't honestly claim any level of personal disappointment. My main hope for this camera is that it will push down the price of the 5D3 for me

I would say though that if you are going to make niche cameras rather than general utility ones, they need to stand out in their respective niche in order to sell. For studio work (and other environments with well controlled lighting) i think this one will, but perhaps not so much for landscapes if the DR is not competitive.

Wait til the real reviews start coming out though, that's when we will know for sure. Before then all we have is ignorant speculation.

If it is the blond bejewelled woman in white, that is the 5DS.

The colors do look very promising. Dynamic range may be lacking compared to D810 but the new Color Filter Array may really be the 5DsR's saving grace.

Here are some more:

5DS

5DSR

From here: http://cweb.canon.jp/eos/special/zoom/index.html

And 50.6MP for 4K, just wow. And 1:1 crop mode!

Looking forward to more sample images, many of the available ones seem to be low quality, high pixel jpegs.

On balance, looking forward to getting a 5DsR. Amazon Pre-Order starts april 30.

Monito - Don't you think that "R" sample (Yokohama Sky) looks pretty good or are you disappointed?

Thinking the same. I hope 5D III goes below 2k, then i'll grab 2 for wedding photography.

Well, of course. Even though they have their own forums, they will be on this forum with their constant whining and bitching about Canon.

I think it looks quite good. Stresses the limits of the 16-35 L II which
from most reports is a very fine lens.

However, I am seeing loss of detail in the rigging of the ship where it just
gets muddled, and I think it might be aliasing, but could be jpeg processing.
I will await some Raws and some independent field reviews.

I'm considering the 5DS for landscapes, architecture, environmental portraiture,
macro, some bit of wildlife, and a little studio work. I'm not considering the
5DR.

Based on the initial indications of dynamic range being no better than that of the 5DIII, I am disappointed. All I shoot is landscape, 50MP would be sweet but not at the expense of going significantly backwards in DR compared to my D800 and A7R.

I was hoping this camera would deliver the goods as I have great respect for Canon's lenses and while they certainly can be used on the A7R, my preference is native mount where possible.

Hadn't really considered Macro into the equation. Hmmmm... I like shooting the occasional macro and product shots. You would think the "R" would be better for macro? I honestly don't know. Either way, I think some of us, myself included, are splitting hairs and both are going to be great camera's for the intended purposes. I guess better safe than sorry especially depending on the type of printing one does too.

Sleepy time. I'll catch up to the madness tomorrow.

Agreed. Very nice shadows compare to previous FF models. Well we need to have some raw files to be sure. So far so good for one don't need the DR.

Why the crop modes? Canon in a fit of too much cleverness made the EF-S lenses incompatible with the EF mount. Why not just crop in post?

Nah, no bitching I am really excited, the 5Ds may not be everything I wanted but I really look forward to shooting with this camera.

You can do that now with 50 MPx. Crop it to 1.6x
and you have a 7D2 but you can switch to full-frame
and 50 MPx anytime. You can't do that with a 7D2.

Think of it as a 7D2 plus full-frame all in one camera.

Then you don't understand the purpose of the technology
and how it works. By capitalizing on the shorter mirror of
the crop factor cameras, the EF-S lens are able to be
smaller and lighter. Lots of people like and appreciate that.

Smaller files for wildlife/sports shooters I guess

I'd love two of these but new price is too high for me. I hope this push used 5D3 price into the $1500 range.

+1, I hate shadows noise but this one look great. It should be good for low contrast subject applications.
