A "worse mirror box" ?!?!?! On what planet It's a totally new box that is dampened to reduce vibrations, thereby more often eliminating the need to employ mirror lock up mode! That's why it's pegged at 5 FPS! Not because it sucks. Because it's been more meticulously engineered. Is there a full moon tonight?!?!

The best thing is if someone is not satisfied with the new offerings they should go and create their own thread in the Canon Forum and invite all likeminded people to post with them in that thread and people can complain, bash, til their heart's content and Fred's official thread can be a discussion of those truly interested in the new product and it's features.

What are the chances that Adorama does an inventory clear out during the holidays on ebay for $2500 like they did with the 5DIII? I've no doubt these will sell as well as the 5DIII did. But I have a feeling the summer release date will give Sony, or others, plenty of time to release competitive cameras at probably lower prices.

I'm not and never was interested in a high MP camera (and was pretty much accused of lying about this from people who want high mp lol!).
I had my suspicions it'd be an upscaled 7d2 with some tweaks. I don't know what it says about canons sensor plans. As a wedding photographer, wide dynamic range is rarely of use so the 5d4 will still be of interest to me, although better quality pixels would of course be nice.
I actually understand the disappointment as it means another 3 years of waiting for canon to release the camera some of you want.
Canon should beware though - this lack of investment or even ability to work with sony for example could cost them as more and more people switch, either because they *want* or *need* more DR.

Looks like a big improvement to me.
In head to head earlier this week, 1Ds3 vs D800e didn't look especially different for DR in outdoor situations, including buildings (Canon 24 IS vs. Zeiss ZF 25/2.8). But the D800e was noticeably better at resolving fine details. Otherwise, it was hard telling them apart except for screen magnification and MP. I expect this new Canon to bump the D800e by around a similar amount, showing even finer details.
I'm happy with what I have, and will be happier still when I can buy the 5Ds (with or without AA).

Holy crap, some people on here...
As a studio shooter, the money can't fly out my wallet fast enough.
Canon folks will love this. Nikon and Sony people will bitch.

Well, of course. Even though they have their own forums, they will be on this forum with their constant whining and bitching about Canon.
This has nothing to do with Nikon vs Canon. Both companies have the devastating problem that they're not trying AT ALL because their loyal users will bend over and take whatever 2% improvement they release as their next "revolutionary model." Look at this thread. You see the image quality for yourself and yet there are people screaming "take my money and anyone who feels differently is just a brand loyalist troll." Uh...we're looking at different sample images.
I don't know that anyone has the guts or the resources to come in and truly release something innovative in this space (Sony had a shot but they blew it in numerous ways), but Nikon and Canon - yes both of them - are totally and utterly boned if anybody does, because they haven't had a new idea since their first generations of DSLRs (which, if you'll remember, where exactly and completely their latest generation film SLRs with a digital sensor in place of the film plane, so it's hard to even know how innovative to call even that).

The sample images look like typical Canon jpg sample images when viewev at 100%, and that is not good. I expect finer detail and better quality with a good raw converter and suitable sttings.

-1, whole world seems to have different opinion than you do on this one. 1Ds3 is a great canon camera but be honest it has almost 2-3 stops under the D800e belt.

The most disappointing thing being that the forums will now be clogged for at least several more years of arguing about the benefits of dynamic range
There's nothing left to argue, the war is lost for the DR naysayers, this is not religion this is scientifically demonstrable effect, not believing the data doesn't make it wrong.
