Some more 5Ds images posted yesterday.

Nice colors on the beach houses.

perhaps another much sharper 11-24 at the 24mm end.

EXIF is stripped, they're learning :P

I really like THIS one. I wonder if that's the "R"?

Maybe because that image is not the original sized one but rather shrunk down by a huge factor. That type of resizing will "solve" even the worst moire problems.

Ben, I agree with Ed. at an average used price of 250, I will keep it just to use for nightscapes.
corner to corner sharpness with little coma, at 2.8 and ultrawide with very little CA is pretty hard to come buy, and even harder at 250

I have several night shots with the 14 and you are correct, it is a good lens for that. Too bad most cameras produce as much noise as they do stars. I think we are 5 years away from good quality milky way shots at ISO3200 unless a tracker is used. Lots of stuff on the web, but I wonder what they look like printed at 16x24 or larger?

For now I do full moon shots with the moon serving as a light source (at my back) and I can work at ISO 400 and f4. No milky way, but good stars.

found some more large 5DS/R 50mp jpegs with a google image search today, time range is from Feb 6 to today. Many have been out for a while it seems but I had not seen them.

many are from digitarvike.fi ( direct links on the page as well as a hands on video in Dutch. )

there are a few from a Hong Kong site.

some others on Netherlands.

NB: These are all big files.

EDIT: This new image came up from 13 hours ago today ( 14mb, quite nice color, no EXIF )

Thanks for posting these Andere.

The only thing I keep noticing is the strong contrast from several 5Ds / R images I've seen posted across the internet. Especially the really deep / dark blacks but not in a good way (to my taste). I'm hopeful it's just overly processed images or jpeg conversion. Possibly the new color filter? Anyone else notice this?

This is exactly what I have been noticing too. Perhaps these are straight from camera jpegs with a still-to-be-tuned jpeg engine? Or have they been processed from raw? Of course, we don't know yet. There are a couple of different versions of one of the Noton seascapes where one has much better highlight and shadow recovery, but in most of these other pictures I am also seeing the abrupt gradation drop off in the shadows. The shadows in the beach houses sunset photo are decent, but in the library shots they are very abruptly darkened.

Again these results could be part of the legal agreements in place for prototype photographers to only release jpegs with canon glass, and this could mean only straight from camera jpegs. It's unknown.

Time - and RAW files, will tell.

Right, maybe they want to keep a consistent result in terms of colors, tonality and contrast. A RAW file can be developed in every direction to the point where it doesn't look Canon anymore. Might be it. Or that DPP is only in BETA mode for the 5Ds RAW files and the users still have no access.

But then again, didn't someone claim that they were able to push 5Ds files 2 stops more than 7D2? What...with a jpeg out of cam? Doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway...as you said....time will tell.

All are made with 5Ds (not R). For that one a TS-E 17mm lens was used.
Same combination with the old library pic, my favorite of the series.
At 100% they are not so good (jpegs, too much contrast).
But it gives you an idea of what quality you can get with a well-processed raw file.

Thanks quis. I was planning to go back and look back over the blog post this weekend. Yep, the library shot was very nice and I agree too much contrast. Hopefully, the raws will deliver. Can't wait to use the 5Ds on the 17 TS-E.

If you dig looking at some semi-technical illustrations, Canon Japan has some to check out here:

http://cweb.canon.jp/eos/lineup/5dsr/feature-highquality.html

Just click at the row at the top to see different pages. I have no clue what the text says but some might still find an answer to something specific they were looking for.
