Take a look at the calendar. It is a full moon on 9-15-08.

I am well aware it is a full moon. My point (which is completely irrelevant in this most irrelevant of threads, which I guess makes it kind of reverse relevant in a double negative kind of way) is that the full moon is not being celebrated, according to the holiday.

Man, you can't do that. You're going to rip a hole in time and space.

Sequels usually aren't as good as the original. Lets hope this will be an exception.

that might be correct concerning movies.
But there are exceptions, too.

"The Godfather"
"Aliens"
"Terminator II"
"The Empire strikes back"
"Mission Impossible II"
"Mission Impossibel III"

But this of course are exceptions.

I do not have that fear with Canon DSLRs:
10D was better than my D60. All following xxDs follow ups where better, too (D20, S30, D40 D50). Same for xxxDs. And imo most 1Ds where (except that AF problem with MK III). The point with 5D is, that it was a complete new product. Till now there is no sequal. But I am in good mood (or should I say "moon"?), it will overcome the original 5D, too.

In Europe the floating disclaimer says "The Eos story continues".
I think its Canons way to say sorry for that 1D AF desaster. As far I can remember and so long I am with canon (since 2000) this was the first time they did not do a great job.
It was a break in a 25 year history of succes, that made them worlds leading camera manufacturer. I think they are well aware about the importance of offering a leading camera again. And more. Ome can not write new camera history. But I guess they want and can turn the weel back to the right direction (concerning their position). I really expect they will present us something, that will convince most of us.

Canon is certainly fighting back with all they have, and trust me, they have a lot up their sleeves. So I would be very surprised if the 5D replacement is anything less than 24 megapixels. It has to be better than the Sony A900 and Nikon D3x or D4. Nikon will then release something more at PMA in February, and Canon will at the same time relaunch it's 1D series with some mind-blowing new technology .... like Dual Digic V, etc.

Yes. Only I do not expect a Nikon D3x or D4 on photokina. Maybe they will bring it in March. But you are right I guess. Canon will reestablish their "pro range" and D3x or 4 just upgraded would lay wide behind again. Nikon has to overjump a step in development, to stay close. This is why there will be no 3Dx on pkotokina. Nobody wants to see his top level competitor outdated by a semi- and another midpro range camera, just when its introduced.

At times of great tension, such this digital camera war, it would be helpful to flip thru the pages of Sonshi's (Japanese name for Chinese military genius Sun Tze) "Art of War" for some clues. Presumably all Japanese corporations use Sonshi's Art of War as essential reading for success in business. So let's look at a few quotes from Sun Tze and see what sort of hints it can give ...

"Generally the one who first occupies the battlefield awaiting the enemy is at ease;
the one who comes later and rushes into battle is fatigued."

"To be certain to take what you attack, attack where the enemy cannot defend.
To be certain of safety when defending, defend where the enemy cannot attack.
Therefore, against those skilled in attack, the enemy does not know where to defend."

To say it with more european words:
I need a camera with minimum 16MP, best IQ and I want it with usable ISO 3200/6400 at an affordable price. Great with EF mount. 200.000 shutter cycles would be fine, too. I am sure I will get offered something like that soon. Maybe before full moon.
If, its mine. If Nikon does it, I would not mind to be with nicon. If Canon does, I would love to be with Canon.

OMG I want that announcement. Now!

I didn't say that the full moon was being celebrated but rather the Autumn Moon. My point is that the full moon represents full illumination, as indicated by the Canon ad, and therefore will reveal what is being hidden from our view.

Yeah, its not like there's a full moon every month. It happens what, like once or twice a decade?

In my opinion all those sequels suck big time...!
the only sequel that was better than the original was Kill Bill 2

Thats right it happens just once a month and it just happens to be in close proximity to a big holiday and in the month that Canon will announce a new 5D. It also reflects the theme of Canon's advertisement campaign, which I guess you fail to recognize. Pinhead!

You do realize I'm just speculating and this is all in fun. People getting defensive about rumors and predictions is more amusing than this thread.

Kill Bill II was actually not exactly a sequel. Tarantino set out to do just one Kill Bill movie, but the work expanded to the point when he decided to divide it into 2 parts rather than issue an overlong film, or cut it short. Maybe that is why you feel that it is better than a sequel...:-)

No, Aliens was better than Alien. And X-Men 2 was better than X-Men.

The Canon 5D is a legend, there are more wedding photograhers using this single model camera than all the other camera models and brands put together. When it was launched it met with a luke warm reception because of it's initial price. Over time it came down and it seems that every one has one now. It was built with IQ in mind but it cut costs in just about every other area (AF ect).
Just about every serious camera brand has of late tried to copy and improve on canon's winning formular, the D3/D700 and A900 spring to mind.

Yes. Based on this, I've been waiting for a unified "Kill Bill", as originally envisioned to appear on DVD (or Blu Ray), ubt it hasn't happened.
