I don't visit this forum very often, but may I ask why is this "update" any different than other speculations?
Howard
As usual, all the speculation presents itself with every opportunity given. The difference is in the original post. The facts are that 5D, S5IS, and G9 are no longer available for the dealer to purchase. That means either Canon is giving up and giving the keys to Nikon or that something else is around the next corner in the Canon product lineup. Who, what, when, where, and how? I don't care, but something is going on for three models to no longer be available for distribution.

It puts cheaper use gear out there for the rest of us though.

great, can't wait to hear your update next week Ben. Any news about lens?
I have zero news about lenses. We didn't hear about anything being discontinued there. However, Canon does like to unveil a new lens with major new bodies, so again, there is a chance we might see something.

Most likely a 12-24L...since I just bought a new 16-35II and all ....
Nah, a 24-70L IS, I just paid for my 24-70L to have the decentering issue at 50mm fixed!
What is interesting is the lack of excitement for the G10. No doubt everyone has been too jaded by huge pixel counts instead of faster lenses and decent iso 400-800. Still thinking of getting the G7 and using the CDHK hack to get RAW and programmable Nikon style Auto ISO. I'll wait and see though, maybe they will pull a fast wide lens out of the hat similar to the new panasonic/leica camera.
Ben, sure like heck I hope you are right and the 5D II will be released soon.
Then hopefully this forum can take a breather from a seemingly endless stream of "Not having 5D MkII is killing my photography" posts.

Fred may have to close the board due to lack of activity if that happens.
