Ben, Why so cagey? Shouldn't you provide more information such as where you saw this "mysterious form", who had it, and what they said about it? Is it a game of some sort? You either know, or don't know....
I was 99.9% sure there would be no rebates, but in this case, I think I rather enjoy being wrong (I hope) and eating my words..
I will gladly stuff them down by the mouthful as soon as you provide real information.

These are instant rebates, not double rebates.
That's unfortunate. Canon is probably doing this in the U.S. because of the complaints they received during the mail-in rebate promotions, but (as I feared) the savings aren't as substantial as they would be with a double or triple mail-in rebate promotion. Sad for me, as I've always gotten the mail-in rebates with absolutely no hassle.
Just bought my 40D two days ago from Roberts for 999.00 but they seemed to have gone OOS just before I placed my order...and so they are sending one Thursday (or so they say)...if these rebates are actually concrete maybe I should think about canceling my order...hmm
Ben, try and get a hold of that form again, you've just stirred up a bees hive!...banking on a rebate for the 16-35.

Listen folks.... I'm just passing on the information that I know. I can gurantee that it is accurate. Don't shoot the messenger. If I keep getting responses like this, I just won't post the information in the future.

I do believe the 35L will not be on the list.
Did you follow the conversation? He already stated that he saw it on the list. Ben works at a camera dealer and has always provided accurate information in the past.

Ben, if you get to see this again, two lenses I'm looking at are the 70-200 2.8, and the 24-70. Either of these lenses on that?

Its kinda sad, those discounts are almost as much as Canon raised the prices last week.
Sadly, you are right. The 70-200 4L IS has been $1059 for a long time. B&H raised the price to $1100. Rebate will take it down to $1025. Not a real bargain considering they were about $950 w/ last fall's rebates.

Actually, that's pretty good considering inflation and the falling USD. With everything tied to oil prices, I suspect it will only get worse.
Going to that site, it seems that the 24-70 has been on every rebate, and it appears that the 70-200 2.8 has missed the last two.
For some reason though, I think I remember it being cheaper then normal (due to rebate).
In 2005 the rebates were April 15th (a Friday) to July 15th. (a Friday).
In 2006 the rebates were April 1st to July 15th. (both Saturdays)
In 2007 the rebates were May 17th to July 16th. (Thursday/Monday).
2007, the fall rebates ran longer, so the Spring rebates were pushed back. I suspect that's what's happened here. I'd say, probably the 12th( a Monday), the 16th (a Friday) or the 17th (a Saturday), seem like the most likely start date.
Thanks for your info so far. Ignore the negative responses.
I'm sure Ben cannot risk photocopying the list or name which store he works in, for his own sake. Canon wants to keep information tight, so by reveling his source for the rebates, he could end up losing his job. If you're skeptical about his info, then just take it with a grain of salt. I like the fact that Ben comes out with early info, than nothing at all.

I don't mean to shoot the messenger and it's really not personal, but posting incomplete information without facts in a rebate and rumor hungry world is a tease.
I didn't know you worked somewhere where you would actually see this stuff, so my apologies. There are just too many unsubstantiated rumors that get us all worked up. If it's as real as you say, then thank you! I'm sure you've just saved many people some money and that's a good thing.
PS - I'll have to start eating my own arrogant words once I see the real thing.
Ummmmm ... a noted local camera store is having their big Tent Sale this weekend and I'm debating picking up another flash ... sure be nice if the Rebates popped up in the next day or so.
