The kit at dell was $3299, with the 15% coupon stacked with a 10% coupon from ebay ($27 for coupon), I got the camera for $2524.49 plus tax. Now if you take off the $300 from the instant rebate and sell the lens for $900-$950, you have a 5D alone for $1440 - now that's not bad for a 5D. If Amazon holds their price at $2750 for the kit then the 5D comes out to $1500 after the rebate and selling the lens.
Of course, that's pending Canon allows the $300 rebate to be accepted on the 5D with 24-105L. I have a 24-70L right now, but my wife needs a midrange zoom as well... so we were looking at getting the combo with a hopeful $300 off. Maybe I should go with Dell.
Well ya'll........................ I am sooooooooooooo excited, my 40D is on its way to momma!!! Tuesday baby! I can't wait.
I just had to share my happiness
I just got a call back from the Dell customer service rep - they finalized the credit in the amount of $318!!!! No restocking fees, no BS, I am very happy that they took care of it and it and I'm sure it will be something I think about the next time I buy camera gear.

Ha! When I was a young lad in the mid 50's, my Dad owned a gas station when it was not uncommon to have gas sell for $.17 per gallon. There would be periodic "gas wars" where the price would go down as low as $.13. Let's see, my Honda Pilot holds 21 gallons so it would cost about $3.50 to fill her up.

I just bought my first dSLR, a 5D from Amazon, and it arrived this morning. Then I saw this post. Arrg! I wrote to Amazon to ask how they would handle this and they said that they are unaware of any rebate, but if one does appear, my best bet is to go try to go through Canon since it would be a manufacturer's rebate. Failing that, she said I would have to return the camera for a full refund, and reorder.
If we do get a rebate, I plan to contact Canon as advised. If I have no luck there, I'll contact Amazon again and see if an "on the books" rebate changes anything. I really don't want to have to send it back and rebuy... it would be silly! Has anyone had any luck with Amazon in a similar situation?
On a side note, this seems like a great forum. I'm sure I'll learn a lot by lurking here. ...Show more →
Amazon has a 30 day self price match policy, given that this is an IR, you may be ok if you give them a call after the rebate kicks in.

Won't work. The rebate comes from Canon, not Amazon. If Amazon lowers the price to match rebate amount, they won't get reimbursed for the loss from Canon, who will look at the date of purchase as primary criteria.
