Just letting you guys know that rebates are on the way. Lenses and bodies. 5D gets $300, the 40D is on there as well. Some of the typical lenses are on it. 85L, 35L, 70-200mm 4 IS, 70-200mm 4, 580EX, 430EX, etc. This is not a complete list... just some of the standouts.
Thanx for the heads up, Ben.
It also does not happen often that the 35L is included.

So how does the double rebate work before? If I get a 5D and a lens, do I get $600 rebate from the 5D That would be SWEET!
The way Canada's promotion is this, you double the rebate on what you buy, if you buy another qualifying item.
For example, the 70-200 2.8 IS has a 150$ rebate, and the 24-70 2.8 has a 100$ rebate. If you buy both lenses you get 300$ off of the 70-200 2.8 IS, and 200$ off of the 24-70 2.8
However, they exclude the 5D from this. So if you buy the 5D, you get just the 200$ off of the 5D. If you buy the 5D and 1 lens, you get the NORMAL rebate on the lens, and 200$ on the camera. If you buy TWO lenses and the 5D, you get 200$ off of the camera, and the double rebates on the lenses.

I certainly hope the 2.8 IS and Non IS 70-200's are there, along with the 24-70. If it's not, it would almost be worthme looking at resale values of lenses, and buying a 2nd lens, JUST to get the rebate on the main lens, then sell the 2nd lens for what I paid, to break even on it and have gotten the double rebate on the main lens.

Not true. Offer B (two items qualifying for the rebate) gives C$400 for 5D and (for instance) C$300 for 70-200 f/2.8 L IS
You think with all the darn time on the internet, I would become more skilled at reading and comprehension.
I feel like a tool. Furman is indeed correct, I checked it again. What messed me up was I was looking at offer C, and seen it didn't apply, and I read below that the qualifying items (the part about the kits with 5d or whatever else it said).
Does Canon have bad history with mail in rebates? Anytime I mail in rebates, I send it certified, and keep my slip. Yeah, it's more expensive, but you have a guarantee towards your rebate.
I've done Canon rebates four times now, and never had a single problem. I am also not aware of anybody who has not ultimately gotten their rebates, though many respondents here had to call the rebate center or Canon to get it resolved.
I'm of mixed feelings about whether an instant rebate would be desirable. Easier? Absolutely. But instant rebates never seem to be as large as mail-in rebates. So I'm still in favor of the mail-in rebates if it means bigger savings.

I've read about lots of issues concerning Canon rebates.
The auther of The-digital-picture.com specifically detests the rebate system and typically gets screwed over a lot.

So have I. There were lots of threads about rebates around a year ago or so. What I haven't seen are reports of anybody here failing to receive their rebates, though some did have to contact Canon or the rebate center to resolve issues.
Like I said -- if the rebates could be just as large using an instant-discount system (no mail-ins), I would be in favor of them. But if the savings are bigger with the mail-in system, that's what I want. So far I've done four of them and all four were redeemed without any hassle at all.
