Keeping it compact, and complimenting the 23mm pancake, you're looking at the 16mm f2.8 and 50mm f2 lenses. Both outlined by Fuji in list of lenses suited for the 40mp sensor.
If you're ok with manual focus, check out the Voigtlander X-mount lenses. They have 18, 23, 27, 35, and 50mm options, with varying optical output and physical sizing. https://www.voigtlaender.de/lenses/x-mount/?lang=en
Thank you for the recommendations. Unfortunately or not I picked up Fuji’s small and lightweight kit zoom for general purpose walk around usage, the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 which is not fast but going to give it a try since the older XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 is not recommended. So I’ll have to see what else is a good choice to pair with the X-E5.

I'm shooting the XF 16-50 on my X-T50 and really like the body/lens combination.

The older XF lens is a great option, not sure who is giving you bad advice...

If my memory is correct I believe that was the original published availability date B & H published for it to become available.
Have no idea how many units they are supporting in that first delivery or how many orders they currently have.

From what I understand, August 28th is the first available shipping date. I preordered mine a few minutes after preorders opened on BH and it gave me an August 28th shipping date.

While the list is reasonable it has led people to discount older Fuji options that work quite well even on the 40mp sensor. While the older 18-55 is not on the list it was being discounted when it shouldn’t be. The X-T5 Kit I bought came with the original 18-55. I only sold it because I had my original that came with x-t20. The benefit is that the older fujifilm XF lenses like the 35 f1.4 are great bargains on the used market.

That's where I'm at. The X-T5 is fantastic, and it has the crucial 3-way tilt screen that I do not want to part with, while the X100VI is... an X100. If I were to go with the X-E5, it would be because I want to consolidate down to one camera body, but I like these so much that I can't see myself going that route (again)...
History repeats, I was going to sell my X100F & X-T3 for the X-E4, but the rear screen of the X-E4 nuked that idea... I hope this new model corrects the "feature", that, when you bring the rear screen out from the body, the image automatically flips upside down thinking you were using it to take a selfie, which made it useless for any sort of waist-level, flip out shooting That was the reason I sold that camera. All they had to do was just allow you to turn that off in a menu, that's it! (I wrote to Fuji a few times about it) I won't even begin to consider the X-E5 if it doesn't address this.
If you can't tell, I am still bitter about it to this day ...Show more →

I 'm with you. Happy with my XT3, and X100V. Will be looking for an

And I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I had the X-T5 and X100VI. I decided to sell the X100VI back at the beginning of the year, while I could get just what I paid for it. Then, when the X-E5 was announced, it was a relatively easy decision for me, size and handling of the X100VI, with the ability to have either a 28mme or 35mme lens. I pre-ordered it in black, along with the 23mm lens.
Separately, I'm not sure I understand all the comments about the size of the X-E5. Yes, it is thicker and heavier than past X-Es. But the X-E1 and X-E2/2s were taller and wider. And while the X-E5 is wider than the X-E3 and X-E4, it's not taller.
Personally, I have no problem with the extra weight if it is the result of a better build. I'm interested in whether the machined top plate is carried through to a better build overall. About the only thing I wish it did have is the ISO sub dial, but you can't have everything.

I put in two pre-orders. Currently, I'm pondering selling my X100V and the X-E4 and keeping both X-E5s when they arrive. That way I can combine a 28mm equivalent and a 50-75mm kit. I hardly ever take the X100V anywhere because I'm not really a 35mm shooter. The only downside is that the X-E5 isn't weather sealed, so for travel, I'd still have to take another kit in case of bad weather, be it my Olympus or Canon stuff.

I've never understood why Fuji hasn't updated the X70. If there wasn't a market for it Leica would have switched the Q to 35mm long ago. Probably Ricoh as well.

+1. Also why haven't they brought that 18mm 2.8 pancake lens from X70 to X mount... I am testing the 7Artisans 18mm f/6.3 and Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 on X-T10 as a small pocket camera. 18mm looks like it doesn't reach infinity and lots of vignetting, I will try again. 28mm is much better but it locked the X-t10 several times...

Sad, because people unknowingly believe that list and discount the amazing “old” glass that Fuji has in the XF line. I love my 18 f2 and 35 1.4 on my X-T5.
The way I look at it: the older lenses may not resolve the full 40mp, but the 40mp will max out what those lenses are capable of resolving, so they should deliver better performance than on the 16 and 24mp sensors

The X-E5 improved build quality gives me hope that Fuji has listened to the complaints of quality issues in the recent models. I really wish the X-T5/50 successors receive the same treatment.

Have you done a direct comparison between images taken with either 18/2 and 35/1.4 on both a 26 Mpixel and 40 Mpixel? That is the comparison I’d like to see. Even if there is not a difference I can see still using the older lens if you have moved on to the new higher resolution sensor if you already own the glass. But if you don’t own any lenses yet i would like to see the comparison I suggest.

I haven’t, unfortunately, as I no longer have a body with the 26mp sensor. I’m curious to see side-by-sides too, which I’m sure can be found somewhere on the net.
