Wonderful capture Dave. Can you explain to me how you put together the series of images to create what I call a "slide show" in fast motion. Not sure how to call it. Do you use a specific program to assemble all the shots? thanks in advance!

You can do this in photoshop, search for making a GIF in PS on YouTube. If you don't have PS there's a free program called Canva that allows you to make GIF's from images or movies.

There are also lots of websites that will make gifs for you. For example: ezgif(dot)com

With the R6/R6II, and by the sounds of it, the R5 and possibly also the R5II, if you totally fill the buffer, it locks you out for however long it takes to start clearing. I've noticed delays of 3-8 seconds with V90 SDXC cards in the R6II before the buffer counter starts climbing from zero and I can start shooting again.

Is this "lock out" confirmed for the R5II?

That is my interpretation of Scott's description of his brief hands-on with an R5II posted here.

That was with an SD card of unknown performance in the camera and he was unable to swap it out for his own CFe card, which should reduce that lockout period a fair amount.

Apparently, the R5 doesn't support time code. Will the R5 II support time code?

Thanks!
As others mentioned, I use PS to create my GIF files. Kinda tedious but fun to do sometimes.

I can't think of a single time I've ever hit the buffer on any camera, at least since the days of 36-exposure rolls of film (and that was recording a building demolition). For wildlife photography, watching and learning subject behaviour helps you capture the important moments with much shorter bursts.

I think I can only say I've hit the 1DX Mk II's frame buffer twice: shooting a long wrestling sequence, and during the 100m dash. Though that's not exactly wildlife.

It's a $500 mail-in rebate for one of four L-series zooms.

The manual doesn't explicitly call out it supports Timecode, however, it's fairly common to feed a TC signal to an audio channel on mirrorless cameras to tackle this. But you miss out on sync handshakes/verification.

I noticed that Canon Canada's current discounts on these lenses expire a few days before the R5 II ships... so we'll likely be buying the at a higher price, and the tax is applied to the full price with mail-in rebates. Still a good deal, though.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was not aware the lens had to be part of the same pre-order as the R5 mark ii to be eligible to the $500 cash back. Just spent another $3.5k minus $0.5K

That is where I find it unclear. The website states preorders must occur during the promotion period between 00:00 Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and 23:59 Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The R5MKII isn't available until the preorder promotion ends which is understandable as preorder. The lenses are currently available and if we must preorder lenses during the promotion period and if the store has stock there is nothing I see stated in the terms that says the purchaser has to wait until the end to of the promotional period receive the lens or lenses preordered from the vendor.

I thought the lenses had to be on the same receipt as the camera in order to qualify...?

I was in touch with Camera Canada earlier today and they indicated the following "The $500 cash back is only applicable when you buy the lens with R5ii. They both need to be on the same receipt." So I asked them to update my pre-order to include the lens of my choice. They will put it aside until the complete pre-order (camera, grip, batteries) is available

Yes same receipt so one must order the lenses with the R5II but no where in the terms is it made clear that lens orders must wait until the embargo on the R5II is over to be available for pickup if it is in stock. All it says is preorder the lenses with the camera.

I just sent them a message to clarify as to how the preordered lenses work. Ship only with R5II or ship separate when available but still on same pre-order.
