Love this lens, can't believe how much lighter and easier to handhold it is compared to the 200-600 I sold.

The first photo shows obvious chromatic aberration, even with a teleconverter just up to the 1.4X.

Generally speaking, using a 2X teleconverter with 300GM will result in noticeable chromatic aberration in high-contrast areas.

What can I do about that? It was very sunny out in this instance. Would increasing the aperture help? Or do you think it’s TC related?

I don't see much if any CA in those two images. It can happen but it didn't here. He's winding you up!

It may be TC related, but without a comparison we can't know, and yes that appears to be axial CA which should reduce with narrower apertures. In this case shooting at f/8 (and you had plenty of light for that) or even f/5.6 probably would have reduced the axial CA to such a low level it wouldn't be detectable and for my tastes a bit more depth of the field in these images would not have been a bad thing.

Excellent, thank you! I agree, I am so used to leaving birding lenses wide open, now that I've got this much lower aperture lens I have to remember to factor in depth of field when up close in this situation. Will be sure to use a higher aperture next time.

just got back from 2 weeks in the Tetons/Yellowstone

I should've used the 300GM more, but was stuck in my old habits and mainly used the 600TC. Still got some epic captures when I did use it though!

I just looked through all the pages in the thread and wow - there we some great wildlife photos here!

Does anyone have experience in this lens with field sports? I am looking at getting one to shoot collegiate ultimate frisbee and would be interested in hearing your experience shooting this with a similar sport like soccer or lacrosse with the A1 or A9iii. Thanks in advance for any feedback you have.

The Sony A1 or A9 III does great with birds in flight. Field sports focus would be less demanding and if you don't need cropping reach I would go with the A9 III for the global shutter.
