I was going through this thread and after looking at my exif data and how I shoot, almost three years later, I took the plunge and the 300 is on its way. I have the 1.4xtc, I'll pick up a 2x...I figure with this and the 400-800, I'm pretty well covered for the type of shooting I do. I'll put the 200-600 and 100-400 up for sale if this turns out to be a nice fit. I rented the lens/TC combo a couple of years ago but didn't have it long enough to really decide if I wanted to invest in it or not. It should be fun to shoot with. Thanks for posting great shots and keeping this thread alive. More to come

Some really great images here, I think i rely on 2x too much but don't want to give up 600! Even so, this morning I had to crawl over rocks to get close to the shore so I wouldn't spook the shorebirds and I still felt too far away. Was maybe 15 yards from these guys, really couldn't get closer though.

A few quick shots this morning after filling up the feeders. I wanted to see how well the 2xTC performed, no complaints. I was at about minimum focusing distance so the DOF is very shallow, the combo is very sharp and holds a ton of detail in the image. The AF was plenty fast trying to keep up with the hummingbirds. If the 2xTC is performing this well, the 1.4xTC will be amazing.

The lens is very sharp!

Don't like shooting this high ISO, but good thing 300 is easy to hand hold lower shutter speed but then trying to get fast moving birds, eh slippery slope. I just denoise with LR, its not bad but i like the more efficient workflow. I used to use Topaz but now there trash subscription and yeah its just easier doing it in LR.

Now the main draws for me are the Eurofighter Thyphoon and the Tornado. I wouldn’t have planned the trip just to see these two. It was too late to change the plan by the time they announced the cancellations.

Had the opportunity to shoot some outdoor high school matches with the 300 and the 85 1.8 this weekend. Forgot how hard volleyball is to shoot, let alone with a fixed focal length!
A1 mk1. All cropped pretty tight because I was too scared to get tight and miss the shots lol.

I imported the images into LR, clicked the "auto" button for adjustments and exported with the default sharpness setting of 40.
I think it's safe to say the combo is pretty sharp. Not the most amazing images, but if you want to see the details... the images are full res on via the Flickr link.

Some high school football with the A1 and 300. Light sucks, was hitting ISO 12,800 easily once the sun was gone. Big crops, LRdenoise at 35%. Good enough for social media.
