today's search for the big 15pt buck came up empty. still got a couple photos I really like though!
The 300GM bokeh is just so creamy. both at 300mm and 600mm. loving the start of fall color, because soon it'll be nothing but grey and white for a few months

Thank you Robert! Yes, the smoke was from the pyro. I like the dramatic look when the jets were flying in front of the smoke. But the dark smoke fooled the auto ISO into higher range than necessary. A few more with the pyro but these weren't shot with the 300 GM though, just sneaking them in to show the effect.

This time I made a change of lens selection. In the last few years for airshows usually I had the 600 GM F4+1.4TC on one A1, the 200-600 on another A1. I had used the 300 GM+2X TC and the 100-400 instead of the 600 GM+1.4TC and the 200-600 a few times in the last few months. For the Oceana show, I brought the 300 GM, 600 GM and a 1.4TC, no zoom. I had the 1.4TC on the 600 GM for a short while, and put it on the 300 GM for the rest of the show. So for much of the show I was using 600mm on one camera and 420mm on another. I think this was the first time ever I didn't bring a zoom to an airshow. It was a mistake. A zoom lens really comes in handy at times.
I have been shooting with the 300 GM+2XTC a lot in the last couple months and hadn't touched the 600 GM much. Man, the 600 GM felt like a ton compared to the 300 GM, even though the 600 GM is the lightest 600 F4 out there.
The 600 GM + 300 GM this time was still lighter than my usual airshow 600 GM+200-600 combo..
My dream lens: a light 500mm F4 with 1.7 TC built in, 2 meters MFD.
Still shocked how much you can crop with TC's on this lens. Here's an extreme example, still some noise and not crazy sharp but the amount of crop is remarkable.
