Has anyone looked at the noise level at ISO >= 800, with the RAW files. Is the noise level the same as the A7RIV or improved ?
I posted an image a few post back of the bird on the feede shot with the A7RV at ISO 1250 that I was pretty happy with. Since neither Topaz Photo AI or Pure RAW2 are not working with the RAW from the ne camera the image had really no noise reduction. Of course the jpeg output from LR is only 3200 x 2400 so I don’t know if that is lowering the observed noise.
I’ve shot a lot with the the RIV and the A1 for very similar shots and the noise observed looks good to me but no true ability to do a direct comparison with the A7RIV which got sold last month.

Make sure you do this on a copy of the RAW file, but you can mod it and run it through DxO PR. Possibly when it's officially supported the results may differ, but that's what I've been doing.

this is my experience compared to the A74. It is immediately noticeable
I had A7RIII, and then A7RIV, and watched A7RV video's, the mechanical shutter is much more dampened on A7RIV then A7RIII it was one of the reasons that camera was so much better for me (and ergonomics, megapixels, a little speedier, real time tracking, viewfinder, pixelshift).
From what i hear, the A7RV may be '0-10%' better dampened, but is basically same as A7RIV (and A1), but trust me unless you really are highly sensitive this is incredible damped compared to any DSLR or A7RIII, it's why for me i don't care about the silent shutter of A1, simply don't want or need it, prefer shooting with shutter feedback.

Have to say the A7RV mechanical shutter is quite nice. It might even be more dampened than the A1. But I know I like the electronic shutter more but that's a visual thing knowing I took a shot. I loved the A1 but many times under the gun I was not sure I was actually shooting the A1 electronic. If you are in a busy scene or lots of things going on around you that distraction made it even harder. The A7rv needs a new name V okay is nicer as you see a real blink

Yup it's that "blink" on the A7RV I use as confirmation and it's all I need or want. The MS has a very confident sound I guess. I just prefer ES. I have NO issues and it's remaining 14bit anyway so I don't care.

I do wish the “V” could be setup to make a sound with the Electronic Shutter like the A1 can. I would like to have it go along with the blink when I want to use it. I do like the mechanical shutter and do use it as well although mostly with EFCS.
I use the new A7RV along side my A1 so being able to set them up in a similar fashion is helpful.
Does anyone think this can be added with a firmware update?
Just ordered one. Thank you. Hope the ship quickly but I’m sure it will take at least to get to me given the season. I can probably cancel the backorder I have with B&H.

Sony need to re-hire some old Minolta people who were master of ergonomics.
They now have 0 variation in their camera bodies, across the entire FF range of cameras.
Bar minor tweaks. Minolta had awesome ergos, and now Sony are in last place
It's sad that Sony continue to use the blocky/boxy bad ergonomics so loathed by so many, they would absolutely be much more loved if they sorted this constant problem out. I don't know what muppet thought angular/hard edges was a good idea on a device you hold in your hands, oh well (double sigh)

You may be holding the camera incorrectly if you are finding hard edges with the a7R V. Also, having consistency across models is generally a plus as you are comfortable with the controls when switching bodies you shoot.
My suggestion of moving on and finding a brand you're happy with still stands. With Sony being last in your book, why not find some brand with curvy bodies that suit your desires?

I suggest moving on and finding topics or quoting people who might be interesting to engage in conversation with.
Sony have a reputation by many as "a fingerpincher" design, due to the grip, though it has improved it's difficult to like their ergonomics overall. Aside from DPReview who are basically an advert for Sony

I just installed the Sony screen today. Fits perfect

Couldn't find the Sony screen protector in stock so I ordered the "PCTC A7RV Screen Protector " on Amazon. I ordered from the same brand in 2018 for the A7RIII and the glass still looks like new, no scratch or other issue.

Have you looked at the Leica, Fuji GFX and Hasselblad to name a few with straight hard edge lines
