i'm going to try this. you might remember that i sort of told you that you needed to go to one of the events that nikon held so you could get answers? well in most cases that would have answered this question: "How did you get that?" with the rep
now, you are approx 1hr and 7min away from District Camera in Burke, Va in light traffic. i believe they have a Nikon Store Event Sat and at their DC store on Fri. i would also suggest you call and find out more before going. you never can tell what might be there. no guarantees implied. make sure the rep is going to be there.

nifty. but it looks like its been used to clean the floor. never should have taken the size sticker off too. it reduces its intrinsic value by 50%

and its sitting on a B&H box
Yep, I tried to take the sticker off to take the picture and it left some residue. I then tried to rub the mark off with a damp cloth that made it worse. Hopefully it will sort itself out. It is a nice hat.
You will never guess the stuff that was in that B&H box....

Virtually ALL dealers are having a "Coming Soon" status nothing too shocking there. There's always a chance if you got in early enough the small number of lenses, they will get in can get you one. Who knows.

While we wait for the Z9, I hope I might get away with posting this:
Met Mauricio Handler this afternoon (know him?), DP of aquaterrafilms.com. He was videoing a pair of otter siblings where/when I was photographing the same. Mr. Handler travels the world building his library of nature stock videography.
Z9 mentioned: We talked and he told me that *he is most impressed with the Z9*, saying it had some features his commercial RED video camera did not. All I remember is that 8K was one of those features.
Does anyone know what the practical value of 8K might be at this time ?
And I wouldn't miss a chance to post a portrait of one of the siblings out on a rainy day (de-noised with Topaz Ai).

Well we're back to B&H claiming they are ON to receive their shipment (however many it will be) of the Z9, 100-400S and 24-120S lenses next Wednesday the 15th. So they are saying. I've communicated with several other folks that, like me, communicated with their customer service department who told us that there was NO change in their expected delivery date of the goods. This of course flys in the face of the Japanese article saying it wasn't happening till the 24th of December. Guess we will find out indeed if it's true or not. I have no idea if I'll even have a fair shot at it even so. But at least the supposed wait to even find out is shortened.

I spoke to CS with B&H yesterday and he mentioned the ONLY thing he knows is that their order for the Z9 bodies was 3000. No idea what's actually coming in in the first round. That's a long ways off of the number you think they ordered. I'm just hoping to be in the 1st wave of shipments
I said Service Photo in Baltimore ordered 100. Never said what B&H ordered.
Also, no chance they will get 3000 bodies. Like 20 to 50 at the very best at first round of shipments. It will be 6 months before they get that many if not longer. That almost an entire months of the 3500 body production.

Nikon's new lens announcement has been delayed (again) until Tuesday 12/14. This announcement should consist of the formal introduction of a new Z series 85mm f/1.4 (or f/1.2), and a development announcement for another lens which is unknown st this time
The Nikon 100-400mm & 24-120mm lenses are still scheduled for initial deliveries on 12/16/2021. We will inform everyone on those waiting lists, as we learn more.
The Nikon Z9 initial deliveries have been pushed back a week, and will most probably occur in the USA on Thursday 12/23 - but they could be delayed until Monday 12/27. Of course, I will keep everyone informed as I learn more details.
My discussions have also revealed that the general allocation of Z9 cameras in December will be VERY small. Every authorized should be receiving the same, small amount of cameras - no matter how big that dealer may be. I cannot tell you exactly how small the deliveries will be, but that # can be counted on one hand. At the same time, Nikon will make a separate allocation to NPS (Nikon Professional Services) members. Some, but not all, NPS members will receive cameras in this first allocation. The good news is that future deliveries will include many more cameras for allocations to ALL photographers. At this time, Nikon is unable to tell me how quickly, or how frequent, our Z9 deliveries will be in the near future. However, the discussions lead me to believe that there will be at least 2 allocations each month."

The 100-400 says it is available for pre-order at Best Buy. The Z9 and FTZ2 say “coming soon”. I had pre-ordered all 3 successfully from Best Buy and within minutes of doing so, all 3 items were listed as “coming soon”. I’m hoping this means that Best Buy is able to fulfill the lens orders and is taking more pre-orders based on expectations. I purchased the D6 and D850 this way in the past so my fingers are crossed.

That is the most detailed info on initial Z9 delivery I've yet seen. Thanks for sharing this. That sounds like Burke Siem at Service Photo.

What follows is Nikon Japan's announcement of the delay.
I guess we do not agree that the notice applies to everyone worldwide? I think it does apply to everyone and think that Nikon is way behind. Oh well.
Here is the notice that Nikon Japan posted about the delay .........
Excerpted from Google translation:
"Notice regarding release date of Z 9 and related products and product delivery
December 08, 2021 Product Information
Thank you for your continued patronage of Nikon products.
We are pleased to inform you that the release date of the full-size (Nikon FX format) mirrorless camera "Nikon Z 9", which was announced to be released within 2021, has been decided on December 24th (Friday).
In addition, we have received a large number of reservations for "Z 9" and related products, which exceeds our expectations. For this reason, we may not be able to deliver the product to customers who have already made a reservation on the day of release. In addition, we are considering increasing production due to the favorable reception of orders, but due to the impact of semiconductor shortages, it may take time for products to be delivered even to customers who make reservations in the future.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for this product." End of message.
In 2017, we went through a very long wait for the D850. Arbitrage knows more about it than I recalled. I believe we must have waited about a year before we had our hands on the D850. Now, if this Z9 is greatly delayed, I will rely on my D850.
On the other hand, I will be elated, if they notify me that it is being shipped to me by end of month.
