I said Service Photo in Baltimore ordered 100. Never said what B&H ordered
Did you hear that direct from Service Photo? I heard that too but second hand. Possibly from the photo department manager at the Annapolis BestBuy but I am not sure now.

What follows is Nikon Japan's announcement of the delay.
I guess we do not agree that the notice applies to everyone worldwide? I think it does apply to everyone and think that Nikon is way behind. Oh well.
Here is the notice that Nikon Japan posted about the delay .........
Excerpted from Google translation:
"Notice regarding release date of Z 9 and related products and product delivery
December 08, 2021 Product Information
Thank you for your continued patronage of Nikon products.
We are pleased to inform you that the release date of the full-size (Nikon FX format) mirrorless camera "Nikon Z 9", which was announced to be released within 2021, has been decided on December 24th (Friday).
In addition, we have received a large number of reservations for "Z 9" and related products, which exceeds our expectations. For this reason, we may not be able to deliver the product to customers who have already made a reservation on the day of release. In addition, we are considering increasing production due to the favorable reception of orders, but due to the impact of semiconductor shortages, it may take time for products to be delivered even to customers who make reservations in the future.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for this product." End of message.
In 2017, we went through a very long wait for the D850. Arbitrage knows more about it than I recalled. I believe we must have waited about a year before we had our hands on the D850. Now, if this Z9 is greatly delayed, I will rely on my D850.
On the other hand, I will be elated, if they notify me that it is being shipped to me by end of month. ...Show more →
I was not NPS and I got my D850 1 month after release. Called around local shops and found one.

This reminds me of the craziness of the President Kennedy assassination theories that were being thrown about. I'll still stick with my call on the 15th to see if it's all true. If it is.......well so be it. If it's not, then we will all have learned a lesson.

Yes i have heard it from Service Photo. A friend pre-ordered with them and they had a zoom call with all of the people who preordered with them and he showed me the zoom call recording and they clearly stated they ordered 100 cameras and stated that the NPS orders won't retract from open stock. This was related to them by a Nikon rep.

My FTZII shipped to the camera store I ordered from, just got NPS email notifying me. Also said this "Please note that delivery to your dealer may take up to 10 business days......." Not sure I've seen that before but it is Xmas season!
Good sign for next week but nothing on Z9 as of yet.

I got the same NPS notice George, and just called the store.

I pre-ordered the FTZ2 along with the Z9 but when I learned that the current FTZ still works with some annoyance I cancelled it. I only adapt my Sigma 500 and it's always on a tripod so I don't need to worry too much about grip. Good to hear they are shipping though.

my birthday is the 20th and I had this delusion that I was going to have an exceptional birthday with the Z9, 24-70 f2.8S and 100-400S in my hands. Now I'm feeling more like it's likely closer to the end of January or February. Just adjusting to that reality.

This is true. There has never been an official Nikon announcement for December 15. This was likely a guess/placemarker by B&H and the rumor mill ran with it. All Nikon ever said officially until a few days ago was before the end of 2021.

Dec 24th seems a strange date to pick. Stores will be rushed to ship on Xmas Eve (if they are even open), many people will be travelling and away from home where the camera is shipping to and Fedex/UPS must be overwhelmed at this time of year.
