I'll be interested in one or two of these once they make a higher MP A7c with no flip out screen. Still can't believe I waited this long for an APS-C sized FF body and they succumb to the video geeks and ruined it with a flip out

With Samyang, Sigma, Tamron and now Sony making highly capable small lenses, perhaps we'll see a renewed interest in stop down photography. I'm all for speed and wide open performance but it can get quite overdone at times.

Overdone is understated IMHO. Many images I see is all about bokeh and nothing about the subject.

I think Sony probably has to go after rendering on these new three.

We will see. IMO, it is often hard to do both small size and great rendering. A smaller diameter can of course lead to more vignetting and that means more cat's eye shapes in the bokeh and a tendency for the bokeh to be a bit swirly. A short lens means less telecentricity and steeper ray angles that can lead to more astigmatism. Now modern lens design with aspherical elements and anomalous partial dispersion elements can help with some of these issues, but of course it is hard to put more elements in a smaller design. So we will see when the lenses come out, but I would not be surprised at all if these lenses were just average in rendering, which would still be pretty good for such small lenses. Keep in mind that Sony has emphasized rendering as a part of their GM lenses with more blades in the aperture and and more polish for the aspherical elements. I'm not saying these won't render well. I just don't expect rendering to be a special feature of these lenses. I guess only time will tell.

I fear it won’t happen. No flip is a deal breaker for most video guys, whereas most of the rest of us might find a flip a pain (I do) but only a few find it a deal breaker.

A big win for the regular shooter, as this is just the beginning. Makers will now improve these lenses considerably for upscale niches. They are easy to design and easy to sell. Makes you wonder why they stuck with the old C/N trickle down approach for so long, where punters used to eye off the fancy fast ($$) lenses being used by pros and just knew they needed them too.

I'm holding out hope Sony realizes there are still photographers out here. I fear your right though. The flip screen is a complete deal breaker for a "compact" camera for me. Oh well.

Don't tilt it. Lived through many a DSLR that did not allow the LCD to be tilted at all. If you really need a compact full frame camera, you'll need to live with some compromises. Or just use bigger cameras that can tilt the screen...you have a choice.

I've heard you complain a couple times now about the flip out LCD on the A7c...one more time and it's an official whine.

As far as who is listening to me...for one YOU. The bigger question is who cares if you dislike the flip out screen...don't buy the camera and move on. Do you really need to announce it ( twice and counting ) that you don't like the flip screen?

I'm thinking that any former μ43 shooter around here is looking at that 40mm f/2.5 and fondly remembering its Panasonic equivalent, that little 20mm f/1.7 pancake.

I don't need new lenses, but I'm still tempted.

I was thinking of the exact same thing - the GF1 and 20/1.7 was one of my all time favorites

These 3 do look like a match for smaller bodies, same filter size and lens size, Nice!

When I bought my 1st Sony, the A7III 2-1/2 years ago, I went with the 28mm f2, 35mm f2.8ZA and the 55mm f1.8ZA. Have sold the 28mm f2 and instead bought the Voigtlander 21mm f3.5 CS lens, as 28, or this new 24, is not quite wide enough for me. Combined with the 2 Zeiss Sonnar ZA lenses they make for a very lightweight and sharp kit, with better lens spacing than this new lens trio, for my general photography in what I call "my wife" photo kit. And just like my wife, I won't be trading them in on a new and younger, somewhat sexier model. Very happy with what I have.

Maybe because there is almost no bokeh in cell phones pics except the fake portrait mode bokeh and cell phone is most people's primary camera. Bokeh is one of the key reasons people buy fast expensive lenses. If I wanted to shoot slow aperture all in focus stuff all the time, I would just use my phone or buy a good point and shoot camera.

Used GH1 and 20//1.7 for hiking myself. And that's a 40mm f3.4 equivalent, we have a whole equivalent stop faster with 40mm f2.5! Which is really nice for a hiking setup to get informal pics around the camp fire...

I guess some folks like it the easy way to get subject separation. I used to shoot with Olympus 43rd with a 2.8 lens and did fine. I guess perfect in focused eyelashes are the new thing. Bokeh isn't everything. With that's said I wouldn't mind the 40 as a lightweight walk around with my a7iii which I still find small enough. And if I need perfect eyelashes I have my sigma 50 1.4.

Responding to a reply is not listening to you. Someone thinks alittle to much of themselves. There is a difference. If I had a dollar for everytime I stopped my self from commenting on one of you dumb smart ass replies I'd be a millionaire Furthermore I never said anyone had to care. The forums are about people voicing opinions and that's all I did. I never said everyone should share my opinion. But since you brought it up . Flippy screens suck for photography
