A quandary the DOii puts me in. I've been waiting on Sony to fresnel up/get something out that's diffractive. Doesn't look they are going to take the hint of the 500PF popularity, and Fuji's alluded to 300 and 500 DOE lenses.
Quandary no. 2. Sony's latest FW update has the A7Riv singing a different tune with the 200600.
A puzzle indeed.
BUT if I do sell the 400DOii, it's value is going back up now all the R5's are out. Many are seeing what you're seeing Bobby, a wonderful combo to be had. Truthfully if I lived in Canada I'd have already shipped my copy to Geoff ...Show more →

I was about ready to give up last night, but finally was able to get another image of a little hummer in a natural setting. This is a heavily cropped image of a female from about 35 feet away. Hand-held.
And once again, the AF of the R5 and 400mm f/4 DO II lens delivered in a very difficult shooting situation (low light, tiny subject, and a busy foreground and background. I will be using this tandem a lot going forward.
RobAmy, I am turning green with envy. It's not a good look! My wife thinks I am ill. . It's like you have your own zoo and aviary. My goodness, the variety!!! And the wonderful job you do with all of it.
Ever thought of selling photographer passes to RobAmyLand?
So I'm sitting in my blind for two hours with my 400DO and this is what I have to show for it. One neighbor is cutting down a tree and the other is pressure washing the house (that's still pink from the fire retardant that the plane dropped a couple of months ago...)
I want @RobAmy 's back yard
That's a great idea - the RobAmy Bird Sanctuary! Add a few judiciously-placed bird feeders in the yard and a bar/coffee stand and they are in business!

I can tell you that having feeder(s) in the yard, along with a couple of birdbaths, is a great way to attract birds of many types. Plenty of Cardinals visit me, along with the usual bluebirds, mockingbirds, sparrows, Carolina Chickadees, Towhees, Woodpeckers, Mourning Doves, and more recently, several Blue Jays and just 2 days ago, Grackles!
2 or 3 years ago, I couldn't name but 2 or 3 of them.
How about it, Rob - when are you open for business?
Got my R5 late yesterday. Hoped to try it out on peregrines this morning, but they stayed put far away. Had to be satisfied with this hawk. Still lots more to try out.
