I have always been a Canon shooter and until now had too much invested in it to consider a switch. But I recently sold many of my prime lenses and many of my zoom lenses so a switch is in the realm of possibilities. I love the Sony technology and all their key advantages for action shots but I fear their menu system and complexities based on what I have read and the youtube videos I watched. But most importantly I think Nikon is the one that perhaps is offering the best lens options for bird and wildlife photographers. My husband certainly fear my switch no matter where I decide to land. It is not going to be cheap. I think he would prefer I buy a new car All this being said, I would love to hear why you would switch to Sony. I think that you used to shoot Nikon too. So if that is the case, why did you come back to Canon? Although I have been following Fred Miranda for a while, I am not aware of all the rules and the ethics. I am not even aware of where the rules can be found. So I hope I am not offending anyone by posting those questions here? Should these be asked on the Nikon or Sony Forum? thanks in advance for sharing your experience....Show more →
Sony's new menu system is actually pretty good; Nikon's menu system is probably the worst in the industry now. Nikon does have some attractive telephoto options for birds and wildlife, but they don't have as much to offer in the shorter focal lengths. Canon would still be my first choice if they made a camera with a two-axis tilting LCD screen like the better Nikon and Fuji cameras have; the hybid tilting and selfie screen on the Sony A7R V is a reasonable compromise. I've tried living with the selfie screen on the R5 for three months now, and just find it too much of a hindrance.
Unfortunately, there are a few emotionally-challenged Nikon trolls that scour the Canon, Sony, and Fuji forums to spew misinformation on threads comparing the different brands, so be forewarned.
