I hate it when I'm too close with a prime lens and can't back off...

I would just do a tight head-and-torso crop of the owl.

I shot with the Olympus 300/4 prime lens (600mm equivalent) for a number of years and I was so fed up with having to change lenses (a 2nd body is too much of a luxury for me) I actually swore that I am done with a long prime lens. So when Canon announced the 45MB R5 + 100-500L weighing only 3lbs, the combo was a no-brainer for me. That it’s a very sharp lens across its focal range was a real bonus to me. And I am resisting the TC as 45MB allows me to do heavy crops. An expensive and crippled TC on a slow lens doesn’t work for me.

I hear ya, I am using the 100-500 quite a lot myself for things that I would not have thought of before, in good part because the IS in that lens allows me to drag the shutter quite often, and also because DXO PR allows me to shoot up to 25k like there's no tomorrow, and 51k if needed. However, for owls every stop counts, which is why I often drag my 200/2 with me and have the RF400 on order.

You need to use the "Post Reply" button at the bottom of a page, or the "Quote" feature. The "quick reply" box doesn't have that functionality.

This white-backed vulture was fighting off another vulture over a dead wildebeest that had surcumbed to internal injuries during the river crossing the day before. I have a series of photos but I didn't want to post them due to the content.

A few from this past week when I was out in Seattle and Olympic National Park. I have a LOT more shots to go through, from both my R5 and my Fuji X100V.

These are with the R5, Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8, RF 24-105mm f/4L and RF 70-200mm f/2.8L:

Nice pictures. Which shots are with the 70-200? I am currently looking at the 4.0 as well as the 2.8 version.

EXIF is intact. 70-200 is first and last in this set.

Recently got to borrow a friend's R5 to go out and shoot Northern Leopard Frogs. I shoot Nikon but man I had a blast using the R5 for frogs, especially paired with the RF100 Macro. The animal eye AF works for frogs too it turns out, not just birds and pets. Thats nearly a selling point for me!
