True you can take real good bif pictures with the z7 and the z50 and sure that the canon r5 can take excellent bif pictures, but the question can the R5 have the same performance of the a9/ii, and can the canon r5 succeed in scoring the same number of keepers with eratic subjects?
That remains to be answered by real world trial.
But I am happy if you buy one 😄 at least I can get a trustworthy real world review

I couldn’t find anywhere in that video showing the EVF or LCD but I only scrubbed through it real fast on my phone. Everything I saw was either video footage or still images from the shoot. Is there a time stamp you saw the EVF feed at??

It is if you set the camera to half stops. But either way the camera is likely rounding down at 1/2 stops and up at 1/3 stops. Most likely 400mm is truly around f/6 or so.
He didn't say anything about have to change the exposure compensation increments to 1/2 stop. Maybe it's f5.6 with the R6?

Or more likely he is just regurgitating the Canon provided spec sheet as many early sponsored reviews were doing and never really tested like Cameralabs did. Regardless, every zoom in existence is cheating on both focal length and aperture so I can’t see it mattering at all. I don’t see why the R6 would make a difference?
Very responsive! I was very impressed with it. Feels much better in the hand and the af and tracking felt great! It made me excited to shoot with it. The joystick was very fast to change the af points also.

Hopefully you can also use the LCD to move the AF point/s around. I didn't miss the joystick with the R. LCD is faster.

Yes that is still available as an option if you don’t want to use the joystick. The joystick has options to change how fast it reacts to a given movement which should be pretty slick. Would have loved to see the 1DXIII AF-ON button with sensor but I guess they had to save something for the R1X.

At the 10:45 mark you can see his settings are ES, H+ (20FPS) and AI Servo. There is a blackout after the shot. But I think what this is is when you stop a burst you get that "blackout"...actually not really a blackout but just a stutter which I think is the camera coming out of the blackout free slideshow it does while you hold the shutter down and do a burst. Basically the 20FPS ES mode is blackout free with very fast frame insertion and then when you stop your burst you get that "jump" as it goes back to real time view. At least that is how I see it working.
Caveat: the above is on R6. You can also see earlier in the video a lot of rolling shutter when he tests panning shooting a straight pole.
On a positive note, the bird tracking looks phenomenal!!
Geoff, I had a look at the 10:45 mark and that's not blackout, I figured out how to solve that problem when I was shooting RW blackbirds with my 1dx III in live-view... My biggest concern is how does it perform with EF lenses and distortion with electronic shutter. EF lenses are at the top of my list, should be for every wildlife / sports photographer. Image review is on, think default is 2 sec's... turn off in first menu tab under # 3. You probably have to do that with Sony or the last photo in the burst stays in your EVF... You can leave image review on but you would have to keep the back-button pushed down when you let go the shutter button to continue tracking your subject in real time but if you release both buttons the image will review on the screen for set amount of secs. I don't have the R5 or R6 but I'm almost positive that's the problem.... Those Canon testers need some training.... "joking"

That's all you see, just the white rectangle blinking in E-shutter mode, same on the 1dx III.

Good call...yes that makes sense...I forgot about that as I didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to leave that on....

There have been several actual videos of the actual LCD showing no blackout and white box using E shutter so at this point I'm convinced. We just need to know if the EVF 120 fps or Smooth setting will do what it says.
