I got the camera from BH. the firmware is 1.01 still, I guess Sigma didn't sell a lot of these given firmware 2.0 was introduced this summer. I updated to latest 2.02 firmware.
I just spend 20 mins setup the camera, only still for now. Wow, that is refreshing, I absolutely love it. There is no tons of features (or I should call nonsense stuffs) in the menu. QS button can cover all the stuff I can think of. A genius is in QS menu, in some feature such as ISO setting, by hit AEL button, you get extra freedom to set it up (for example how you want your autoISO set, at day light or freeze movement, you may want 1/250, under artificial light, you may want 1/30 or 1/60 in North America to avoid E-shutter banding) on fly without enter big menu.
I see not many mention ISO6 which is another genius way to do things. This is not extended ISO like most camera outthere which is basically overexposure a ISO100 images. This is frame stacking process that give extreme clean file like real ISO6. 4 stop will be enough for most water shooting under day light if you don't want that milky look. Just a CPL is all you need in field if you don't need 30mins exposure
I haven't have any use of tone or color button and can't reprogram these two is a bummer but I don't really care, maybe I will use them just for quick JPEG play. This is an iphone extension setup to bring everywhere for me anyway.
AF is actually very good, AFC may not be competitive to other offers but it is for sure faster than RX1 with eye and face detection. I look forward to get sigma 24mm. No wonder Adam love this camera more than S1. This is a Japanese Leica. Actually, I have to spend more time fine tune setup for Leica SL2 to be able to access all the features without dive in menu system. This one is way more straight forward. Case in point: crop can be instant accessed. HDR can combine with timer release. From Still to Cine is more straight forward.
Build quality is high, handling is 'extreme' lovely. This is the hidden gem in modern world. Having used S1 myself, It confuse me the most along with Sony A7R1&2 in different way(Panasonic is a feature rich camera and features can be confusing to setup or use, Sony is hard to access needed feature in field, both are prone to forget how to evoke or use certain features under pressure) and I can expect what will be for a S5. I think I definitely made a good decision on this one. It almost fit my requirement like a glove.
Full time E shutter doesnt bother me as I pretty much use it on SL2 full time as well. This is the small Leica FF body I have been asking for. Adapt M lens is not important feature for me personally, small high quality AF glasses is a must for this to shine. So I will happily waiting for my "I-series" coming.
One more big plus is a superb digital back as back up for SL2 for me. I don't mind bring this 'lens cap' with me.
This is a RX1 with better AF and ergo. Sigma gets it. Photography is supposed to be fun. A+
Now, I have used FP a few more days, I get to know it a little bit more.
Ergo wise, It doesn't change my original positive feeling. It so small and lovely. It make me go out shooting first time in past 6 month. If I remove lens hood, I can put it into my jacket pocket. Shooting arm length is a much more preferred way for me on the street as I am not use to confront people and usually people on street also are much more aware of camera if I rise it to eye through VF and facing them.
The camera has eye AF surprisingly that both Leica and Panasonic doesn't have. (Pana may have it now, not sure) However, it basically useless for me as it is totally unreliable and slow due to the tiny focus point, especially for Sigma 45mm, f2.8 aperture make face detection enough.
If you set AFC release priority, it will just give you tons of out of focus images or wrongly focus image for moving fast subject, and if you set focus priority, it will just refuse to take any shots I also found that sigma tend to focus to background if you set focus box big, and it will be slow if you set focus box too small. Face detection will be preferred if it can detect face. (worst I have used out of Z, S1, SL2 etc)
I figured just use AFS and move my body or arm with subject make more sense for tracking subject. or just do trap focus. AFs with mid sized box is reliable and just be careful about background and double check focus if it is a import shots. For some, this might already be game over situation and write a nasty review but I love it as much as I did mentioned in my previous short write up. I only appreciate what is shine for, I have other camera for other stuff. It absolutely wonderful and fun to use. It give me a experience none of other camera give. the 45mm certainly helps.
I took many ground level shooting rely on AF and on screen electric level indication. maybe because this is the area my other cameras don't do well, I think only A7c give it a run I don't miss flip screen on this one. I wish Sigma can remove all the fancy video feature and heat sink (though this might be the only selling point for this little fp for most of its users) and make it $1500 below and 300g, Oh man, Can I dream?
Here are two JPG out of camera with minor tweaking. I used T&O preset. A little too much for my taste sometime, I wouldn't recommend using it globally but I think it will give nice effect for certain condition. I will post more later.
I was super happy with the FP for what it was. I have four points I would like fixed.
1) Needs an electronic EVF attachment for when it's really sunny or I don't want people looking over my shoulder.
2) It needs a mechanical shutter because there are situations where this is problematic IQ wise.
3) the whole L-Mount needs PDAF/CDAF hybrid.. I think the whole L-mount will sink the next round without this. These cameras (S1/S1R/SL2/Q2/FP) are the worst AF cameras on the market today no question. And this really sucks because there are some really good L-mount lenses already.
4) Bigger battery without making the camera bigger
With that said I miss mine enough to want to buy one back. Especially if they're going to continue to make small AF lenses.

I actually emailed them to ask if they could make them reprogrammable along with a few other suggestions but they never did it. And I sold it before the 2.0 firmware so I have no idea what they've done with the update.
O&T is not bad in the right situations if you set it weaker.
I couldn't tune the JPG files as well as I could tune the S1 jpg files.. I had also asked them for this but again not sure what they did with the new update.

Haha, You change camera like change socks. I am not any better
EVF attachment will make it 10% better. I don't miss mechanical shutter at all, I don't use it tracking running human or fly animal. 1/30 or 1/60 work for me under artificial light. No flash photography for me or for this camera. Attachment is preferred than a onboard EVF for this camera. Small with good sensor, build and ergo are all I need for this one.
PDAF will be helpful but It is a plus not a must for me.
Bigger battery is always good but you are right about don't make it bigger please, make it even smaller. I don't have complain on battery at all. It is reasonable good to me.
The key is this is not your main system camera. It is a pocket P&S with strong heart & soul
A few more with 21X9 JPEG only, T&O with minor editing

I agree with everything you're saying right now. I think I'll buy the FP back
BUT I have had problems with the electronic shutter, I'm sure you'll run into it once in a while though it's probably not going to bother you as much as it's bothered me for the types of things you shoot.
I don't know why they don't just make an EVF similar to the M EVF.
Really nice images by the way, love the JPGs you've dialled in the colours nicely.
I've since sold the FP I picked up late on in 2020. Initially it was a very refreshing camera to use, but the lack of M profiles for shading and exif data did it for me. I know the profiles can be handled in post, but I'm lazy and just want a plug-and-play solution (lack of exif was pretty much a non-issue but i feel the two come together because the L to M adapter on an L-mount body kill both birds with 1 stone). I did try the colour shading correction but it works in an inconsistent way (different distances, different apertures...too many variables). Also, I just didn't get the "feel" of the camera when shooting it as my colour M body because it didn't give a tactile shooting experience (no "real" dedicated dials, electronic shutter with no natural shutter sound, etc.). It's not the camera's fault at all. I just came to realise that I really just enjoy shooting M lenses on M bodies and that Leica M and L-mount bodies are the best plug-and-play solution for M glass.
However I do have praises to sing. It is a great concept of a camera. The lack of a mechanical shutter was a non-issue and I never experienced banding or rolling shutter (just need to set the right shutter speeds for banding, and for rolling shutter, it might be there but i never noticed it). The build quality was a pleasant surprise too (finicky wheel is a non-issue with the small grip). Sensor performance is fantastic. I had no issues with manual focus (just punch in focus) and shooting without an EVF, though this took a bit of getting used to. The FP with a 28cron/35fle/50APO was very portable and compact. It's a dream idea on paper to just throw this camera + small M lens in a bag and forget it's there (ignoring the weight differences, it was like an M capable GRIII or RX1). Cinegraph function is very fun too.
I'd have loved the following to be addressed via firmware:
- battery % indicator
- Leica profiles when using an L to M adapter (wishful thinking, but hey, L-mount alliance?)
- 6k video? Not that I do video
Hardware wise, the FP2 would certainly be more appealing even if it just had a mediocre pop-up evf. They can leave out the mechanical shutter. IBIS would be nice. Same size.
I used the camera "wrongly" in that it was purchased solely for M mount glass use. This camera would have done just fine with the compact sigma/panasonic AF primes. I'd also have loved to use a 35mm Cron-SL on it. And no issues with lens profiles and exif either. With AF glass you don't need (I don't need?) the tactile feel of shooting.. just point and shoot and move along.

I agree with you. I think this camera is built for using New Sigma i-series lens or for 12 bit DNG raw video. I don't enjoy shooting manual focus lens on this camera PERSONALLY. The highlight of this camera is size and build along with simple I/O.
I watched the Youtube assembly guide- this dude is SERIOUS. I was going to just watch the video to see how he did it, but after watching it, I feel compelled to support him. He clearly put a ton of work into designing and engineering this and the result is really professional-looking. I have an email in to him, I'm hoping he'll accept a PayPal transaction from the US, a little nervous about dropping ~$250 on an international item through an independent vendor.
Yep, we exchanged emails - order placed. How'd your assembly go? I'm reasonably handy, so not too worried, but any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Have no fear. I bought using paypal and received the as yet uninstalled kit in less than a week.
Recently picked up a used FP off of eBay for a pretty good price. I love my Fujifilm bodies and will continue to use them for most of my work especially the paid gigs but I missed FF and I love the idea of a super compact system with a couple of primes but absolutely no compromise in image quality. I also received the Sigma 85mm f1.4 in the mail today. I have the 65mm f2 on preorder but didn't want to wait for either it or the Lumix 85 f1.8 to release. I mostly shoot portraits and am excited to try the FP and the 85 out on Sunday with one of my models.
I have a Datsusara fanny pack that I've owned for years but hardly used. I am able to fit both the 85 and the FP in the main compartment with a divider as well as 2 additional batteries and the external charger in side pockets with possibly enough room to spare for the 65.
Will hopefully be able to post my work here in the future although I know some of my images have been removed from the Fujifilm thread for being a little too risque.
I picked up a used fp and the 45/2.8 the other week. It’s my first digital camera in a few years and so far I’m having great fun with this compact kit! A few pics from my first days with the camera:
Did a full portrait session with my buddy using the FP and the Sigma 85mm 1.4. I really like the color science and dynamic range of this camera. We grabbed a burger afterwards and there were some cool bulbs above our table so I grabbed a quick shot. This SOOC using the Teal and Orange preset in the camera.
Might have 2 shoots lined up tomorrow. One in the morning the other in the late afternoon/evening. Gonna bring the FP along with the Fujis and see what I can get.
