My opinion: The ZX1 bears the look of a slow-motion bellyflop on Zeiss' part.
Bellyflops do make good splashes, though. And most any action looks "epic" in slow motion, and this has definitely been a drawn out peek-a-boo from Zeiss.
Then again, maybe I have a tasty hat I'll have to eat and Zeiss will pioneer a new market segment.

Unfortunately I attended PhotoPlus yesterday and went to the Zeiss Booth. No camera. None, none to be seen, none to touch and I was told by the Zeiss reps that the camera will be coming in the future after they have spent so much money on this. They have no idea as to when the camera is going to be released. They are still performing test with specific photographers.

Not good. The camera will be outdated by the time it finally launches . . . too bad!

Okay. Thank you for the feet-on-the-ground update. Other wise, are there any hints of new Zeiss lenses?

Yawn
The proper way to have done this would have been to test prototypes with their specific photographers, work the bugs and quirks out. Make certain it user friendly and fast to use and do not say nothing about it until they have a production ready camera and kick it off with some razzle dazzle and fanfare. Slow moving companies do not make it in this field.
This arena seems like it is more about being first rather than the quality of the files they get. What is there about the rumored ZX1 that smartphones cannot do or will be able to do in the very near future. If there is a market for this and a large enough one other mfg's will quickly beat Zeiss to the punch at far less and better implemtation.
For regular pros and enthusiasts I see nothing wrong with the present method and better methods are evolving. The A9II for example is supposed to have much of this capability.
If I am going to edit something I want to do it right and its not gonna be to my satisfaction on a 4" in camera LCD that is what the press call quick and dirty. Just get it out and now.
The SSD has got me curious but I do not understand all the pros and cons to an SSD or dual SSD's vs fast high capacity cards but if it makes sense it will happen accross the board.

I think they’ve shelled up after getting pummeled PR wise for the last year. I think they keep their lips tightly sealed. The only way the ZX1 PR turns around is it hits the market and get solid reviews from independent sources and photogs.

Thanks, Rich!
I don’t think it will ever show. Even the 30 odd that predicted.

I don't think that says much. People at trade shows are usually briefed to be absolutely stumm about unannounced stuff, unless of course a decision is taken at a higher level to leak.

The ZX1 really is interesting and is showing how camera manufacturers are becoming more innovative and differentiated. Maybe Zeiss is watching the market now with the 25% tariff within the US and slowing the introduction of new models as it will directly impact new sales.

You are so right. There is nothing like killing existing sales by leaking new products too soon before they are even close to delivery. I've done a ton of trade shows and the pre-show meetings laid down exactly what can the talked about. Announcements and releases are key marketing drivers and need to be managed.

The 25% US tariff is on goods manufactured in China. I suppose the general decline in the compact and system camera market is a more important consideration here. Of course we don’t know where the ZX1 will be manufactured.

Most likely in China. Least likely in Germany/Japan.
