I'll admit being shocked when I first saw that size comparison. But then I reminded myself that the RX1rII is quite a small camera. Here's something that put it in perspective for me - http://j.mp/2zQ55nP

Three classes there, Mike, quite well separated too - the Leitz camera and the ZX1 probably fit perfectly back-to-back. From Camera Size, here are the 'middle class' entrants:
'Leica SL Typ 601 is 4% (5 mm) wider and 12% (11 mm) taller than Zeiss ZX1.
Leica SL Typ 601 is 5% (2 mm) thicker than Zeiss ZX1.
So 4%, 5% for what matters. They are now 'thinking big' and really don't want to make a small camera for the new age. The other point of difference is the affordance for finger placement that the Japanese favor for mid-large cameras, whereas the German design principle seen here favors a straight vertical grip over a comfortable shaped grip - the fingers must bend to the will of the camera designer's 'vision' at both Leica and at Zeiss.
So much for Sony a7x ergonomics. Are your fingers all the same length and strength? - of course not. The top lip adds greatly to grip security, and the larger the camera the more secure it needs to be. This is hand anatomy 101.
Even the lens front on the ZX1 looks like they are trying to hide the fact that this is a camera. So far, the Nikon Zn vision looks best, and at 585g it will be very close to the ZX1 weight with a light M lens on board, even the new 35/1.8 S makes it just 955g. Nicer cladding than Sony too.

How many here would like a medium format fixed lens camera?
Given it could be the size of the ZX1, absolutely
I thought it would have been a better pairing for an RX1 for FF, and a ZX1 for MF. Having said that, that MF territory is a lot more expensive, so maybe neither company really wants that niche.
If the ZX1 was the exact same size--though I realize an MF lens would be a little bigger--but it was an MF sensor, I'd be drooling.

Doesn't the brand new Canon R mirrorless only shoots 3 FPS with AF? and that's with a lower MP sensor.
It shoots 5 fps with AF, but only 3 with "tracking priority".
Just wait until the next EOS R comes, the high resolution model, then I think we will see a new low in fps...

funny, all talking about size,
nobody had it ever in their hands.
the last perfect compact Fullframe was the Olympus mju II,
all the rest is by far not jacket pocket able and therefore its the same if its 2cm more or less.

Hey, it's smaller than their previous Contax.
HAHAHA Awesome!!
I've actually been into the Contax T3 lately (load the silver one with low speed film and the black one with high speed film). What I'd like to see is EXACTLY that with a digital sensor (and perhaps slightly faster AF). Surely tech is small enough by now?!
Oh and as a side note, we really have it so good with the high iso of any modern digital camera. 1600 ISO and even pushed 400/800 ISO looks like crap compared to iso 12500++ on digital.
Too bad the Zeiss wasn't smaller as I love the look and the ergo seems doable. The Q is fine and what I'll be using until a Q2 comes along. Though maybe Sony will surprise us with a redesigned RX1 that's dare I say minimal.

I have all the cameras that the image above compares it to.. And I can tell you now it's a shame it wasn't smaller. The size will kill it for a lot of people. (I love the T3 and it fits in my pocket which is something to behold as I wear very skinny jeans sometimes )

I think if they used the used older MF sensor like Fuji and could keep it the size of ZX1 it would be unique and and would sell pretty well despite being more expensive. The extra image quality of MF sensor would make it worth it. Current ZX1 I doubt will have much more image quality than RX1/R and price will be higher. We will see how high next year I guess.
